I have a "thing" about workshops - like I am drawn to them: it is the same with lawnmowers and barbeques in high end garden centers, (I don't want to buy either but I simply cannot resist looking at every minute detail on them - I know I need help..... 
)
Workshops or more to the point, other peoples workshops, are like a day out treat for me - just looking at the differing ways that people have stored tools and equipment in general - I never get bored with it.
And more importantly, the type of workshop.
My late father had an impressive and very organized workshop - but he worked in wood.
I have an impressive (I think) and very organized workshop. but I don't work in wood - I work on cars and motorbikes.
When the 2 are compared, they are incredibly different - a bit like 2 pretty women but both speaking different languages.
For the "cars and motorbike" workshops, I am always drawn to "where and how do you clean things....." ???
My dream workshop would have a small room, (4m2) with walls and ceiling lined in stainless, grease trap in the floor, just so as I could EASILY clean stuff without covering parts of my workshop in S**T...... Sure, I have a parts washer tank but many things are just too big to sit inside it.
As I said earlier - I know - I need help.

I have noted over the years that regardless of the materials or medium, repair workshops are almost inevitably much much dirtier than comparable manufacturing workshops (apart from art conservators).
Which is where your other point is dead on the money:
I like the concept, but think you're dreaming too small.
Having walked around various well designed maintenance facilities over the years, I want a full size wash bay I can put a whole vehicle or machine into and get both underneath and above it easily.
Given we're dreaming, ideally you could have a room like that rigged up for power washing, steam cleaning and wet-blasting.
Had enough today, old age and low temperatures
.I'm back at work tomorrow after a month off and I probably won't get back in here until next weekend so I spent all of 10 minutes cleaning up and making sure it's a pleasant place that greets me:
The folding welding bench is still not sorted but we're talking about moving house this year so it can stay as it is for now:
And I made a start on a storage rack for my woodturning chisels:
