Spray/paint guns

Morning all after some advice again,

Just wondering if anyone has any opinions on spray guns, I have been looking at machine mart at the ones below, I have also looked at devilbliss but they are very expensive and not too sure as I have never painted before, I am working through my VW Caravelle so a beginner and not sure if it will work out or if I'll ever do it again

They will probably kind of work after a load of fiddling... I think this is one of those times when buy cheap= buy twice. Or you'll get fed up with it and never do it again. I don't think I've ever bought anything Clarke branded and it be any good. A nice gun will be a pleasure to use, but a cheap nasty thing will make it a nightmare. Same as with welding.

Second hand decent gear (devillbiss, Iwata etc) would be where my money would go, that way you can punt it on if it's not for you without losing much/anything. I bought a little Iwata LPh-101 touch up gun with 2 cups a few years back for about £100, sprays lovely on my little compressor and would sell for not much less than that now.

I use the pgf18 as a primer gun. Works good for the cost. just make sure to give it a gold clean before using for the first time

Thanks for response, didn't really want to spend £100 yet as I have never done anything like it so could end up spending say £100 on a gun start paining first panel and be terrible at it. Kinda not sure what is best, I have seen people mention devilbliss flg5 but is there any other starter begginers guns that are good that don't cost the world for something that may not work. Thanks

I have a couple of Sealey Gold SG701 which work fine. I also have a gun which looks like the Clarke one and it was £9.99 from ebay including post and it also works well. I have used Binks and Devilbiss in a factory environment and appreciate the quality but for a novice working at home you will get reasonable results with the budget guns and they will come in for rough work if you ever decide to go upmarket. I would never buy a second hand spray gun no matter what quality unless I knew the owner and/or had chance to use it.

^^^^^^^^^ I was just about to say that I have one of the Clarkes above and it is Ok for spraying brackets and underbonet fittings on my old Rangie, I have used it with Epoxy primer and 2K solid. But I was also going to say that I was sure the same gun is available elsewhere for a lot less, the local MM is only visited in an emergancy these days.

As a novice I find my Devilbiss FLG5 easier to use and set-up than the cheaper guns and I get a nicer finish. I’ve used the Clarke and Sealey guns. I personally think a better gun is better for a novice but if you’ve been spraying for a while you’ll get on better with the cheaper guns because of your experience.

As a novice I find my Devilbiss FLG5 easier to use and set-up than the cheaper guns

Have had good results with the FLG5, used it a lot for 2K solid and various lacquers and ploy varnishes.

Also do people go for normal or HVLP guns any recommendations on these thanks

Personally Normal unless you have a lot of air on tap, HVLP can be good but if you're struggling to supply the gun with enough air the finish will be poor due to lack of atomisation.

Never tried the Clarke but the Erbauer is very good. The needle sizes are useful for primer and lacquer so two guns in one.

I think if looking at that price range folk seem to find the fastmover, sealey gold and Erbauer guns ok.

Does that include both sizes ? I only see the 1.4 and a 1.8 fluid tip plus needle will cost you another £36. You can cope with just the 1.4 really.
