ICI was sold at the motor factor where my wife works under the Maxmeyer name but they now sell PPG paint. I don't know if it's just another name change or a different supplier but the paint still works fine.

just to let you know that you can buy U-POL ACID #8 1K ETCH PRIMER (red can)from Halfrauds, you can also get it from Brown Brothers. I use this all of the time , excellent stuff

PPG now own the ICI brand (Now known as Nexa) along with max meyer amongst others.

max meyer paint is very good, i used it for a full respray,sprayed a to dream.
2 base coat,3 lacquer. walked away after 2 hrs. job done.

Got to say Jaykay, I agree, the clearcoat I used just last weekend went on a dream, really is good stuff, although the basecoat I used I wasn't too impressed with coverage wise, no groundcoat (as rcommended) but took a good 4 coats to get it right.

i used a black first then did it that dark range rover pearl blue. covered great like that.
there are some pics of it in the brew room,about 6-8 months ago.still there if you want to look under my name.

Great I'll have a look. I think dark colours with a black base are good to do, this one I've done is a sort of gold/orange over a grey primer, it really was a ****** to cover.

I'm off to the brew room now!!!

you can alway tint your primer. use white for light colours and some of topcoat to it,or maybe a bit of deeper yellow in your case.

Yeah did think about tinting the primer, I've yet to do the outside so I may go for that method.

I'll try and put a pic up so you can advise a suitable tinter!!!

Well here it is, sorry about the pic quality, mobile phone pic!!

It's a '51 chevy 3100 and the colour is a fiat orange, although it looks gold to me!!!!

who do you get paint off?
i would add a strong orange to a white primer.but if you have grey just add it to that.any thing up to about 20%.the only draw back is rubbing the primer.it will pick up abit,so use washing up licquid to lube it.as you rub down.
that's screaming out for a v8.

I'll have to try that, I'm not sure where the paint is coming from, it's not my truck, or my garage where it's being painted!!! so the owner is getting all the gear.

And yeah you're right, V8 would look the part, but he wants it to be sort of old school, including engine, the engine still needs some work, but its getting there. I spent the whole summer sorting the rot out, it's been a labour of love really, but he's happy so it makes me happy!!!!

Yeah I think I've had more than my fair share, this WAS another one!!

This e-type used to be mine, I restored in from the ground up, it was a real rot box, put complete lower half on that car, complete floor, inner outer sills, bulkhead, (that's not me in the pic by the way!) and finally sold it to a guy in Denmark. paint on that came out superb, it was Lechler gear, with a really nice groundcoat, metallic base. Didn't like the lechler clear very much though, much prefer MaxMeyer

the car was sold via email, never met the guy, but really honest nice guy to deal with. money didn't seem to be an issue. but you're right, it's a shame, but I guess it's better than the scrappage scheme!!!!!!!

can anyone recommend a good HS 2k clear coat. Looked at max meyer and upol-already got some cheap stuff which came with a load of paint I bought, I will try it on some scap to see if it's any good first.

Hi Phaseonix, yeah go for the max meyer, the one to use is the MAXCLEAR HS NEW - the code for it is 1.360.0200, i used the 6000 hardener with 4320 thinners (which is a slow one, good for resprays.
