Starting the "what did you get for Christmas" thread early

Could have used it last weekend (drilled out sheared bolt, retapped D-bush mount for Crusty Honda's rear anti-roll bar, short tap wrench could only turn 45 degrees at a time because a bloody car's in the way, so slacken off, pull wrench off, push back on turned a bit and tighten up, rinse and repeat what seemed like 1000 times...) so when my dear old mum asked what I'd like for Xmas...

I have had a standard length one of those for 20 plus years, it comes in handy every now and again.

Went to one of my daughters house today to exchange gifts and received the most original and bizzare gift i have ever had, My Son-in law is a consultant at our local hospital and the same one i had my Cancer operation in 2016 for stage 3 bladder Cancer. He accessed my files this autumn and brought up my post surgery biopsy slides of the actual Cancer cells from the bladder and zoomed them up to then get them etched on to Aluminium plates I opened them up today and was blown away by the originality of the gift which i will treasure the rest of my life. The actual killer cancer cells can be seen as the darker spots and he explained it was days from going stage 4 which would of been pretty nasty. Anyway thought i would share, carry on with Christmas and be grateful to be alive.

A stick of Toblerone, a DVD on Oppenheimer and the 'the bomb' and a book by Jeremy Bowen on the the Middle East.
I'll ration my consumption of the Toblerone but am depressed enough without watching/reading either of the latter two. Can't imagine what my daughter was thinking. Such pleasure as there was in Christmas this year, was in the giving, although, there was barely a display of gratitude from the recipients.
It is what it is I suppose. Thank god it's almost over.

I use my credit card for literally everything I buy, except one little cafe that gets killed on credit card costs, so I specifically carry cash for when I go there.
Which is 3 lunchtimes a week.... my only social life...sadly....

Credit cards are free loans, and protected against scams, as it's the banks money you're using. I pay mine off every few days, so it doesn't build up into a huge sum.

I just wish savings accrued as quickly as credit card bills seem to do. Chuck a few quid on your card, and you owe £300 by the weekend. Chuck a few quid into your savings account and you have £12 saved by the weekend.

We use the credit card to max effect and every month pay it off in full the day before it's due. We have done this for over 35 years , It wacked up our credit limit to £24 k if we ever wanted it & just before Crimbo we are told it's now increased. to £32 K .
It's certainly better than my university educated deputy head sister & her university educated head of technical studies hubby who used to have to pay at least 30 % of their annual joint income of about £ 143 K pa wage to the card companies and thinking that they were well off . They were astounded when I explained their stupidity .

My mate and neighbour dropped this in yesterday morning

I'm sure it's the bottle I gave him a couple of years ago ! i've never seen it on the UK shelves ( export strength ) and I always used to get a couple of bottles on the plane coming back from skiing I'll take it all the same .

I've a Leatherman Wave+, originally just a Wave, but after 5 odd years, the cutters didn't cut and the big flat head screw driver broke due to my fault (fan belt install).

Sent it to regional Leatherman rep, got brand new latest model for free, no quibble.

I don't go anywhere without it. So useful.

I have a Wave+ among others (several) I use it daily for something, best leatherman I have had. Mine is about 5 years old after I did similar to @Barking Mat with an older version and got sent back this as a replacement.
In fact I bought my brother one for Christmas as he borrowed mine down the woods a few weeks ago and commented on how good it was and he hadn't got one.

Its a schoolboy thing. Some blokes never grow up. Working at college & then school it was a daily task to sand cocks off workbenches & drawing boards.
Every technician in the world does this. I blame the Romans.
However confession time, I once got some horrible little year 9 scrote into trouble & detention by drawing a particularly splendid one on the bench where he had been sitting. Kept me smiling for days that did!

What did I get for Christmas? Covid, that’s what! My wife went down with it first on the Saturday, the me on Christmas Eve. Crimbo was rather subdued there after.
