This saw is too nice to repaint etc. Will be left all original.

So a small repair section in white or off white 3D printed would be ideal and I would trim to suit and glue it in. I will measure the slots carefully and start a new thread to request that help which would be great to repair this survivor which I intent to keep for a very long time.

The white is actually light grey and the colour code is ral 9010.
The Orange is ral 2004.

After the amazing success of last night the big Stihl didn't want to run today :eyepatch:

It will fire immediately on brake cleaner so I knew it was a fuel issue.

Taking carb off it is all really clean and original. When I test the fuel line with a shringe I am getting no fuel at all. But I can inject fuel through the line from the fuel tank side. So I think this is a case of a cracked fuel hose somewhere.

Trouble is this saw will be very hard if not impossible to get parts for. But reading up I believe the fuel tank hose connector is a metal barb so it should be possible to replace the fuel lines with normal by the meter Stihl rubber hose. Will see. Will also try and order a carb kit as this one appears to be stamped 1963 production so maybe would be due a fresh diaphragm!

Yes the Genuine tillotson kit is correct for this saw.
I do not have the genuine fuel pipes at the moment, they are currently on back order along with Stihl 051 pipes :-(

Perhaps with a new filter and a good carb clean & rebuild she will be running perfectly again.

So I ordered the new genuine carb kit from him. I will try to get it running tomorrow again with a new fuel hose as I think that is the actual issue with it.

So this one is likely mid 1970s production. Still a classic!

Broken, no fuel in primer bulb is what they say. Ran fine when parked!

I have a HS45 so this is an upgrade to it and I'll sell it on then when I hopefully get this bigger one going.

Update on this one. The new genuine cylinder kit arrived today. At £26 that is unbelievable value. Quality is top notch as may be expected.

So tomorrow I intend to clean, sharpen and fully rebuild this trimmer and try starting it.

How's your vibrating damping on yours hs hedge trimmer mine seams quite loose

If I lift it up I can see a 3 mm gap between the body and the rubber grommets this normal

Ps mines now running hope just needs adjustment to get it runing after a carb rebuild kit and sonic clean

There are thick neoprene type washers, i total. Mine are in good condition as it is a 2017 saw but if yours are bad then that would be where the play is.

Got this all built back together today. Repainted the exhaust too.

Added fresh grease in gearbox too

It started up and is running.

But cuts out and bogging at times. I think the carburettor has issues. I may replace it VS spending too much time rebuilding the original and maybe getting no where.

yea what i was thinking was knackard will wait till its running right before splashing the cash on them

mines was not running but a carb kit for 10 ish quid has fixed that all i got to do is set the mix fuel screws to get it running and onloy a sonic clean was needed

I guess I'm not in a real hurry anyway since I have 2x other trimmers so I went ahead and ordered a repair kit including needle etc for just over £8 on ebay.

I will ultrasonic clean and flush the carb out when that kit gets here and try again.

Reading the most of this thread and updates made me take the plunge,

TS 350 super, ebay purchase, mention earlier "there is not many left that have not been hashed" well I got lucky, this is a cracker, it was its over all appearance that made me think that cant have done much in its life, even if it was sold as spares repair.

It also made me tackle my badly running echo hedge trimmer HC 2300, it was running like a bag of bolts, full throttle or it would stall, even after 5/10 mins it would cut out, I gave it a compression test, 75 psi, thought after reading all the comments here, thats it needing split and maybe new crank bearings, but before I did I thought I would chck my nearly new echo strimmer, same 75 psi, interesting how many others makes need approx 100 psi or over to be good. anyway after setting about the high and low screws finding a manual that was close, sure enough I have it running just about as it should,

Next up was my MuCulloch leaf blower, same issue poor runner, again managed to adjust the high and low screws to get it running presentably, gave it a good work out yesterday making a start on the leaves dropping from the trees,

Its been a good wkend on the 2 stroke front..

That looks ancient.

I cleaned all of my chainsaws and adjusted my g372xp, the idle was a bit too high making the chain keep spining a bit too long on deceleration - not ideal when up a tree.

Amazing how much difference a correctly gapped sparkplug and clean air filter makes! The 2nd time I've remembered to do the filter this year.

My rebuilt TS350 has about 75-80 psi compression and runs fine.

I got my 045 running today after rebuilding the carb. Stop switch is coming apart so will need to replace that but can choke it out so will wait and do the crank seals and rubber intake at the same time.

It made its first chips in around 10 years tonight!

I borrowed the bar from my MS391. The original west Germany made bar is still on the 045 which is very cool. But the oil cap was missing when I bought the saw and due to extreme wear on one short area of the lower bar I think the PO ran it with no bar oil before. When I added oil and a new cap today it was oiling fine.

So I plan on doing a TIG weld repair to the original bar to salvage and make it usable again. Build up material one side at a time along an approx 4 inch long low section then file it back. No point in it becoming wall art when it can hopefully be repaired and put on the saw where it belongs and after all it will only do about an hours work per year, if even.

Top of the bar dressed and AOK.

I had a spare half hour this evening to try the Tig chainsaw bar repair.

It worked out great. Got a bead added and filed back on one side. Still leaving a small bit extra to dress back along with the other side once it is also welded up. On terms of hardness the tig welds are harder to file than the bar so should work out well. I carefully opened up the groove again with a cut off wheel.
