You'll need to go to the gym first, they're a beast of a saw! After 5 minutes use your hands go numb as the anti vibration stuff is minimal.

The TS480i sold tonight. I always test any saw I have repaired before it is sold on. So tonight I tested the TS480i and after it's first cut it let out a bang and stopped!
After careful examination I discovered it had sheared it's flywheel woodruff key. I did have the flywheel off so I must not have fully tightened it back down. Lesson learned to always double check that!
Luckily with the nature of a woodruff key, it shears off and leaves no other damage. So to let it go tonight I swapped one over from my other TS480i easily enough. And I ordered 3x new genuine woodruff keys for £4 inc post.
Some lock tight added and after further test cuts I was satisfied it was ready to go. New owner away with it there this evening.
I would like to buy a Stihl long reach pole hedge trimmer next. Spares or repairs ideally so will keep a lookout

I went ahead and bought a decent Stihl pole trimmer engine- not spares or repairs this time! They seem to fetch strong £ and this the cheapest I have seen after a few weeks of looking. The seller had listed several all ending at the same time so that kept the price down a little!
I believe this is the top model of these with the most power- 1.9hp(?)
I really only want this for hedge trimming. So I'll order a used extension shaft and hedge trimmer head for it next. (Also pricey!)

Heavy beasts the Kombi system. Hedging is very hard on the arms so a lighter machine generally preferred. Not my favorite tool as ladders are often involved!
I note that they seem to use large, low tuned slow revving engines for hedge, strimmer, polesaw etc.. where it seems to me it would be better to have a light 25cc chainsaw engine and a speed reduction.
So given they have lowly tuned engines, how do they make so much noise! I hate using the Stihl ones for that reason. Its one tool where I think the china imports may actually be better, Im looking at getting a Fuxtec combi set.

Well I'll try it anyway and see. As an occasional domestic user I can always do small amounts at a time I don't need to use it days at a time for a living.
But I do see people saying it's heavy. I'm reasonably strong so will see how heavy it is for me personally.
I did look at other models but couldn't move away from Stihl brand until I try theirs!

Tbh they are all heavy, its not a bad machine. My friend doesnt like his kombi which means it is sharper than the other one, and why I prefer the kombi.
I do wish they were quieter like my echo 2511, which I often use without any defenders. May have a look what ones they make..

Decent looking used Kombi trimmer attachment also bought on ebay best offer accepted
I have a big laurel hedge to one side of my house which is due a trim.
So as soon as this stuff turns up I'll give the Kombi system a go!
It won't fully replace my HS45 Stihl hedge trimmer but I think will be handy for tall hedges and save going up and down ladders and potential falls from them too.

I have since received the good used 2022 made KM131R Kombi engine, carbon extension and the used hedge trimmer head.
I took the cover off and had a good look around the engine and it is all original and in great condition. 2023 dated new genuine air filter was in it too so it seems to have been looked after also. Starts and runs really great and super easy to start.
Initially I had issues with the hedge trimmer. But turns out the previous owner had fitted a new shaft to the head but didn't install it all the way home in the trimmer head. I had taken the covers off and looked into the transmission whilst figuring this out and also verified it is in really nice condition and had very little use. Working perfect now.
I wiped out the grease and added fresh Stihl grease including to all 3x grease ports. The thread on the Stihl grease tube threads into the head which is a nice touch.
I used it today and it runs really nice and is very powerful. Perfect for what I wanted trimming large hedges. Top them easily standing on the ground too. Very pleased, I struck lucky on both the engine and trimmer head and saved over 50% on the new price. Still expensive but then nice things cost money.
I will also sharpen the trimmer blades before completing the trimming of all hedges around my house.
I will also be looking out for more Kombi attachments to make full use of this powerful 4 stroke engine. The rotating sweeper brush looks very interesting and would definitely get used around my house.

I have been getting on very well with the Kombi above, I don't find it too heavy for me and I have finished the first large hedge with it and very pleased with how versatile a long pole hedge trimmer is for large areas..
Next up is a BR600 leaf blower. Won on ebay auction for £83+post non runner spares or repair aparantly no spark but will see
Some parts missing but no issue will take stock of all that it needs and place one order once stripped down.
I already have a BG56C Sthl handheld blower but this BR600 should be a good upgrade. So I intend to fully strip this one down, clean everything and start wit resealing the 4 mix engine and resealing valves etc. As long as the crank bearings (not available separately, you have to buy a full crank) and piston/ cylinder are good I will be happy.
Workbench cleared, gasket kit, dirko sealant and the Stihl workshop tools ordered for it

will be watching this ive got the same one or near as only thing with mine there was only a broken pull cord sorted that and with fuel in bore it starts
so should only have to sort carb and pipes as not been used for a few years looking at the green on it

OK so the cheapest spares or repairs BR600 in UK arrived today at last!
First impressions are decent. Looks like someone has already re sealed the crankcase which is a common item to leak in these. So someone has been working on it. And I noticed when testing for spark I am indeed getting spark! So it wasn't the fault they said which is common.
It turns over fine and feels like the crank bearings are very good. These 4 mix engines have auto decompression so it's hard to test the compression on them. Indeed impossible to read the dynamic compression. Watching you tube people get 100psi or so and say that's good for these. This one tested alot higher so seems to have great compression
What I did notice is whoever was working on it did not reinstall any rocker cover gasket. On these whilst they are a 4 stroke engine the crankcase must be sealed for them to operate just like any 2 stroke. This is because they have no way of holding oil so the 2 stroke oil lubricates the engine. So with that rocker cover gasket missing it would never start.as the carb is getting no vacuum.
So I'll await the gasket which should arrive tomorrow and see if I can get it to fire at all. Its not really that big a job either to tear down the engine. Which I may do if I don't trust the workmanship of who was in there last!

Short version - this happened in washing machine
Other straps were ripped and needed repair anyway. One back pad is £40...
So £50 was actually a good deal to order this full replcement frame with straps - great used condition. This whole frame is a bit wrecked in mine so this will make a real difference
Having further checked the fuel system and engine everything else is good from what I can tell. Carb is genuine and looks only a year or two old. Fuel tank leak free. Engine crank very good and engine seems to be In top condition and was also recently resealed by someone so I think I will not have to open it up.

Update on the BR600, I did end up taking it completely apart for a reseal. The reseal by the last guy was a bit rough and when I seen the original black crank seals were still in there it was time to tear it down. (New seals are blue)
I found the flywheel key was also sheard off so had to order a good used flywheel for it. There was also some dirt inside the engine so I'm glad to clean all that out before it started and ingested that. Small debris and red silicone on the crank and bearings.
The crank, piston and cylinder bore are in like new condition zero issues and bore still has hone marks. Very pleased with that.
I am using 100% genuine Stihl parts to repair this blower. Including the red Dirko sealant
Engine now completely re assembled and re sealed. Timing checked and the valve clearances set.
All parts of the housing etc were also thoroughly steam cleaned today. So once the parts orders arrived for it those week I will try starting it up for the first time.
I sold on my Stihl HS45 Hedge trimmer (China made domestic model) this weekend and bought a larger upgrade one which is a made in Germany professional one said to be from Hampton court estate. Who knows but what I do know is it looks like new condition. Looking forward to receiving it.
One sided bar and I'll get a catch plate for it for topping large leylandi hedges at my house.
