Stripped injector thread.

The proper kit is idiot proof, it comes with a reamer and tap with a spigot that registers in the nozzle hole. A bit spendy at £400 but cheap when you think of the work involved , the grief of removing a head and sending it off for repair.

Crud from the tap will whistle up past the flutes in the tap , dont forget to get one of these in the glow plug hole and connect the air line.

The injectors are m20 not m24. When I remember who has my thread gauge I can work out the pitch.

Well I finally got around to sorting it out. I made a top hat insert to plug the bore then made a tap out of silver steel and ran it up and down the thread. Only a small portion of thread was damaged.

The replacemt injector torqued up so looks to be all good - except it now wont start. I have tried everything to bleed yet wont fire. Looks like i have dodgy used injectors but dread taking the "new" ones out as I loctited the damaged on in.
One step forwards , two back.

heat with a blowtorch softens loctite but will possibly damage the injector

Will it fire on brake cleaner as some times can help build the revs and drag the fuel through.

I think those injectors are all steel components so heat shouldn't hurt it or not enough to soften the loctite anyway. Problem is you might find the alloy head soaks up the heat while the injector expands so you might make it tighter by heating it!

I would just slacken off all the feed pipe nuts and crank it until the fuel is running out of all 4 then tighten up and it should start within a couple of seconds.

If you have tried that then you could just replace the 3 injectors to see if it starts and runs on the old ones before messing about with the dodgy one.

If you want to find the dodgy injector without removing them take all the pipes off the injectors and move them to one side, then get someone to crank it over. The unseated injector/s will bubble or shoot the diesel in the injector back out. mind your eyes.

Its not firing at all. Zilch.
If it was one or more dodgy injectors you would think it would still run even if it was as rough as hell?

Injector pumps used to have non return valves in the charge ports, that stopped years ago so now if you have an unseated injector it can fire air/diesel mix back down the pipe on the compression stroke into the pump causing havoc. Take off the pipes and crank it over and you can observe whether the pump is injecting and whether the injectors are seated.

Think you are right. I just removed one of the pipes and the injector bubbled and farted for 10 to 20 seconds without cranking over, just from the residual pressure in the bore.

It was the injectors. Swopped them for an old and unknown set and it fired straight up but with a bit of a diesel knock so looks like i need to get a set of recon injectors instead of wasting money on used sets.

Why not strip and clean what you already have? New nozzles/pintles are only £10-£15 for most injectors and only take a few minutes to fit.

Agree with Bob..those Delica injectors are as basic as they come

Maybe. I do have a diesel injector pressure tester but if I dont have the correct shims, I am stuck.
