Here's a strongbox I made out of a recycled oil tank off an old substation transformer, the angle was a rusty fence post, and the top plate was a bit cut off a narrow boat and dumpted in the hedge. All 6 mm plate and a 5 lever lock.

There will be an anti lever bar across the front tomorrow.

Many years ago I had a 3 tier gun safe made-to-measure from 6mm plate to fit into the back of a cloakroom. The doors (all 7 lever locks) weren't hinged, but rather simply dropped into a 2" well at the bottom and then recessed an inch from the leading edges. Almost zero chance of effectively inserting a pry bar and since it completely filled the width of the cloakroom there was no room to swing one even if you got it in! Then it was screwed/bolted to the side and back walls and the floor. As the bottom section was meant to hold shotguns and rifles this made the door large and extremely heavy, but at least it was well over what the local plod considered to be 'secure'. Nothing less than an angle grinder (or dynamite) could have got it open without the keys. I left it behind when we sold the house.

I found my old pistol safe in me dads shed the other day, back from the 80's, it was passed by the dibble, but it was an old sheet metal box with hinges on the outside, and a little padlock !

I wouldn't put my sarnies in it now days !

My pistol/ammo safes are still fixed in a cupboard at my parents house, home made out of 1/8" plate. I should get them out for re-cycling.

my ammo safe used to be a simple sheet metal box mounted inside my rifle cabinet. Police were happy with it, and so was the guy that bought the cabinet off me last october. Shotgun cabinet is a fairly new bs rated job but seems quite flimsy considering what it is.

lol used to store my ammo in the gas cupboard it was piled up with them . it certainly made the gas readers eyes pop out when i had to move em so he could read it

haha i keep my cartridges in the the boiler cupboard, keep dryer than if they were just sat on the safe. Had 2 lads out to service the boiler in jan and neither of them knew what to do with them, even after i moved them all out onto the kitchen worktop they were still a bit nervous lol

There supposed to be a bit faster if there kept warm and dry or so my farther in law reckons, but I don't fancy a few hundred cartridges on top of my oil boiler!

its not so much that they are faster, even though they potentially could be, but when the powder gets a bit of moisture it burns unevenly and leaves a lot more residue in the barrels, which after 500 shots starts to affect the patterns a tad. nothing major but after a long day shooting with slightly damp cartridges the bore is a mare to clean.

the whole faster velocity thing is only really perceived because when they are dry the powder burns quicker which technically gives more power, but I know people that have tested this with high speed cameras and there are only a few fps in it

Residue! Try RC Game cartrages, they are the filthiest thing this side of black powder but they fold birds up a treat :-)

I don't think my shoulder is up to a 500 shot day the odd 100 at clays is enough for me!

been there tried them, was impressed with their capabilities, less impressed trying to clean the gun.

there is a gun shop just over the road from where I work and he reloads and sells his own 7.5 shot 27 gram loads. they are far cheaper than the branded shells, I think 250 shells for something like 34 quid. my mate bought some and put all 250 down his brand new browning 725, and I honestly thought he was going to start crying when we got back and he tried to clean the barrels. it was like caramel in the barrels, the bronze brush got clogged up, the pull through patches got jammed and came of the jag, bore cleaner didn't loosen any of it up. im not sure what he used to get it clean but it took a long time. and that was only 250. I put over 600 of the equivalent hull cartridge rounds through my browning 525 and it barely looked dirty.

im a bit ocd with keeping a clean gun. I was considering selling my 525 a while back and it was valued at the same price I paid for it new, and the rizzini I bought for 300 quid in rough condition was valued at 1200 after id finished with it. the Baikal I bought recently was in what the owner considered to be mint condition until I got it and even he said he was surprise I could get it any cleaner, but I did lol

Worst case with fte's or not loading. Remove working parts, drop in bowl of Pepsi, rinse off, put back in and carry on

in all fairness I have never cleaned the bore on my air rifles...but that's about it. I cant stand having a dirty shotgun, and could never stand having a dirty rifle either. I currently have a specific cleaning kit for each shotgun, a boresnake for each shotgun, each shotgun is kept in a silicon treated sock and with silica gel packets in them, in side the cabinet which has a dehumidifier/water collector in the bottom, and I fully strip clean and re-assemble my shotguns once a year, replace any grease or lube, check for wear and so on.

I find it all very theraputic
