Let's be honest not everything goes to plan , stuff goes boobs in a vertical position, you have an errorgasm, FUBAR, drop a clanger, down the pan, up the wall, A over T and straight as a donkeys hind leg.


Yesterday I decided to put a cable on a brand new Bosch drill I got that was used for a display and thrown away, I decided to do it properly and take out the old cut off cable ends from the trigger module , bad mistake, when I unclipped it there were dozens of tiny loose contacts and springs all over the bench, took me an hour to work out where they went and get the thing back together again.

I got it working in the end, my wife said “chuck it out & get a new one” can’t do that, it’s only about 40 years old, not run in yet.

Oh they are easy to swop out.

There is a little spring lever that holds them in place.

Small jewellers screwdriver. through the slot (that's takes a bit of time to locate.) Or down through the cable entry.
Lever, remove cable.

Simples.

my wolf drill or better known as my dads wolf drill is not metal but newer blue and light grey in colour

im weary of it but will use it, Ive never known my brother use it but hes been warned if you do grip it, if it gets loose it will hurt

my nephew has been refused to use it, even though he refused to touch it

its wrapped my knuckles a few times when its grabbed and handles gone round and cracked them at the back

FIL has a 9/16" (?) drill. About 200 rpm. He wanted to drill through His truck bumper to put an offset hitch on it to tow a farm wagon. He laid on the ground and drilled up. The drill bit grabbed and He had a good hold of the 18" handles. It spun Him around and jammed Him up hard against the rear tire. No one there to help get Him loose but the dog. The dog did all it could by laying down against Him. This was not Lassie. He had to flop around till He got it unplugged.

used my wolf above my head in an rsj.. drill grabbed, and i punched myself in the jaw while hanging on....
ended up on the floor dazed with the dril hanging above my head on the snagged drill but, with all the cable wrapped around the drill

You haven't seen my two Wolf all metal 6" end grinders then. They look a bit like this but NOT at their price. I just want £40.00 each for my 240v pair. I think Eddie Hall could use them as dumbbells. No plastic bits to break and proper clunky switches. Wolf tools now are just a name on Chinese products.

A repair to a very cheap telescopic shoehorn. Let's stop this throwaway society attitude!

It had snapped in two...




Found a bit of 6mm rebar that could work as a handle with a bit of cleaning...


Drill and wire brush work well...


1mm (ish) slot (perfectly in the centre of course! )...


Complete brazing fail! Wrong flux or something? I'm not sure. All I achieved was blackening the stainless steel...


Crispy and not joined...


Let's try some 309L...

Well, it is holding and technically it's a functioning shoehorn...

was in my consumer unit.. altered the feed to my workshop..
went and checked tge tightnes of the rest of thd screws and managed to strip the screw on the breaker that feeds the shower.... so rather than an upraded workshop, i now only have 16a

Today was a success, but yesterday was a righoff. I was removing a small concrete base from a loose box in our field, to allow my new building found to be finished. Broke the conctete, mixture of sthil saw cuts, brute force and dropping bits of concrete on it with the digger. Loads it into old 3 ton dumper Ive borrowed. So off down my field I go to where Ive been dumping my spoils. Thinks Ill stick this big stuff over there.

And whoops in down to the axeles, testicles didn't realise it was so wet there. So its 4wd and took me 4 hours to get it out with the aid of my neighbour and his big tractor. Bit of digging, fence posts, etc etc.

Run a bit of solder along wire you are going to push in and it goes in a lot easier.

I made a shed last spring out of plywood I salvaged from a huge packing crate from China , turns out that it was full of fungus spores which all sprang into life last winter, now I've basically got a mushroom farm made of ply that seems to have been glued together with flour and water, one more winter and it will have dissolved.

Sometimes you have to see the funny side.... A few years ago my mate bought a TV cabinet made of some kind of hardwood, a couple of weeks after assembly it was covered in holes and was infested with wood boring insects. Which then proceeded to eat some skirting and his sofa.... He found out what they were, I can’t remember the name but they weren’t a native species. When he told me the sofa had started to collapse I really struggled to keep a straight face, I’m a bad man!

I remember when I worked in a machine shop in the 80's, my foreman brought in a rotary can opener, the cheap chrome one. It was all worn where the turn handle bit goes through and he wanted me to cut it apart, drill it out, make a brass bush, reassemble it, weld handle back on.

I could have done it, but he wanted it on my own time, during my lunch break.

So, popped down the town, had my lunchtime pint, and bought him a brand new identical one for 29p.

Throwaway age or not, some things simply aren't worth saving.

I might be doing the same today.
