Sorting through, cataloguing the items I recently received, this white box was found.

So when opened it.

Again, not a zippo.

Also it was caked in some wax like gunk.

Striped down and left to soak in Meths.

Dried out, new wick, new flint and the flint wheel was bent into the correct location, for it to work.

The wadding was rotton, so it got new stuff.

The light meter was in good condition, but in need of attention.

The needle is not on the stop, as it is fitted with the blanking cap.

Clean the lenses, with Meths, until it s squeaky clean.
Then adjust the screws(in side the case, in this one) until it reads zero with no light entering it.

There is a few more steps, each light meter is different, so follow the manufactures instructions.

Clean the case with a soft cloth and wax.

This Italian 35mm was mine.
But I did not do a good enough check on it.

The shutter was not working, as ws the focus ring.

The focus ring was seized in old grease.

Ispol Alcohol had it being to soften up. The blob was the grease being removed.

Leave it over night in Meths and the rest will come out.
Rinse well in De ionized water, the soak in Meths to remove the water.
Dry and clean.

If this could talk.
4 hours of cleaning, adjusting and finding that dam screw what went "PING"
Had the shutter working.

All cleaned on the outside.

The insides were given a good blow out with a can of clean air.

Rebuilt, it has a film in it. I will see how it takes pictures.

This "Oil Lamp" bimbled my way the other week(Month)

It was meant to be a decorative item.

But a rummage in the bin of Oil lamp bits, found a suitable wick gear assembly.
a new wick was added.

New fuel and a good clean flame.

Why not, it was a fun to make it working.

Took most of yesterday, the Lathe got put back together and was taken for a quick spin, tiny bit of vibration as its not bolted to the floor, checked for level and its not bad, may bolt down but its going to the big workshop when the gets built so my just leave as is.

Then a bit of welding was done, i know welding on a welding forum was 2 small filler plates on the woodburner front grill
Its made from 5mm steel, but goes in a 10.55mm gap and rattles and leans forward, been meaning to fix it since buying and refurbishing it 2 years ago, add 3mm steel plates in and then added a weld ridge to keep it sung when it slots in.. now fits as sung as a bug in a rug.

Just a quick repair job on the handle of my ancient Hayter mower. It’s been welded up a few times in the past, but it was too thin and rusty this time, so a couple of bits of 25 x 3 angle bolted further up where there was less rust.
Forgot to get any pics during the repair, but this is the finished job. Just needs a lick of paint to tidy it up.
Even had a some welding involved too!

I bought this old thing about 25 years ago from a mate who fished it out of a skip with a broken handle.

Definitely £20 well spent I think!

..... the rear shock on my old (new to me) 2006 Fiesta Diesel van.
I knew the RHS rear shock was on the way out as soon as I test drove it - but the van was cheap so no worries there.
However - it started knocking on Friday so I had to fix it.
It's supposed to be (& is) a straightforward job..... unless one of the 2 upper securing bolts shears off .
Instead of drilling it out, I removed the interior trim & cut a hole in the top skin to reveal the exposed threads - and was able to stick some vice grips on it and get it to wind out.
A bit brutal perhaps, but the trim covers the hole, it's not affecting the structural integrity.... and it was a lot less faff lol.

By the way, the guys slightly damaged the auger feeder hopper with a forklift. I couldn’t close the edges of the crack; there was a lot of deformation (waves, bumps). From the outside, I welded the hole with MIG synergy + pure argon. The seam turned out in the style of "alligator's back" (literally "plaster" to support the new seam). I was able to throw wires to plug the hole. Next, I protected this seam by blowing in argon. And continued from the inside with TIG welding. It's pretty ugly, but I hope the box doesn't burst because the vibrating hammer is constantly hitting it.

@winchman kindly sold me some large bearing separators which arrived today. As advertised they were a bit rusty so a couple of hours on the wire wheel and they are looking a lot more presentable. The sharp edge on one will need a bit of dressing or squashing on the hydraulic press, but these are going to be splendid for my JCB 3CX hub bearings and seals.

I'd expect that opening them isn't much of a problem, it's keeping track of all the bits and not having any left over when they go back together. I've never tried it, though.

Opening them can be a massive pain due to the measures Bosch in their infinite wisdom put in place. And many parts are aluminium threaded into an aluminium body, and gall!
Some details off the top of my head.
Blue, proprietary torx style plug, can gall, extremely tight
Grey piston can get stuck in yellow thing
Brown spring (and puck which sits under the spring), the pucks are different thicknesses that go up in steps of 0.1mm. Don't mix them up!
Pink, different orifice sizes, not discernable really by the eye, again don't get mixed up.
Red threaded "nut" staked into green housing. Depth critical as sets preload of valve against spring (brown). Has a non removable mesh (orange) extremely fragile and if your tool (see below) slips then its ruined!

Also, the one photographed, is the culmination of 2 pumps to make a decent one. But it can take more than that, I'd say 2 is quite lucky.

One of those bloody days today!!

Does anyone else start the day aiming to achieve one thing, but spend most of the day doing side activities to get back to where you started?
Job = start putting up conduit in workshop ready for final wiring. seems relatively simple
Side activity "1" drive to Colchester to get conduit clamps because Braintree dont have any, get there system shows they have 241, want box of 100, they only have box of 50 in stock, system wrong
Get back, get metal clad wall boxes ready for conduit glands, these boxs only have knockout for 20mm conduit gland. FFS!!
Side activity "2" go to friends farm and borrow mag drill adaptor and some mag drill bits, 2hrs later after cup of tea, get back to realise mag drill adaptor wont fit in current chuck in pillar drill, need to change chuck, cant find morse wedge, Side activity "3" go find bit of 5mm steel to cut morse wedge, change chuck. Drill adaptor is bit bent, Side activity "4" put it in lathe and quick skim to get concentric.
then go find large machine vice to hold everything im place. drill pilot hole bias to the front of the box so 25mm conduit lock nut will still fit inside.
6 hours after should have had the wall boxes ready, finally =

Interesting week really.

KTM starter clutch, had to make a puller to help the proper puller take the flywheel off, what a crap design!.

BMW Paralever solid bushing conversion.

Triumph Sprint 1050, interesting one!. It was ridden with the check engine light on until it stopped, battery had basically exploded.

Fitted a new battery and MOSFET Regulator but on trying to start the bike immediately blew the Fuel Injection fuse.

Long story short it had fried the ECU/PCM although surprisingly it looked OK from the outside still.

Expensive lesson learned there, don't ignore the CEL (probably lit due to overvoltage).
