Helicoiled some stripped threads in a gearbox yesterday. I discovered you can get long helicoils! I'm delighted.

I have used 2 helicoils ,one on top of the other , in the same thread in the past,
I re-made that 1" male 14 TPI to 1/2" UNF female adaptor that I screwed up yesterday - honour satisfied
How do you like my crude method of measuring an internal thread. This is M16 x 1.75 pitch - nice and non-standard and although I have the thread gauges they are blooming hard to read inside a smallish hole.
I turned a taper of the approximate size onto a piece of square (ish) soft aluminium bar then wound it into the hole with a spanner on the flats (hence square bar!). Unwinding gave me a male thread to measure - worked a treat

Home for 4 days via a sneaky pint. That'll teach me!
Got in and happened to say it felt a bit cold. "Oh yes, it was warm this morning but not as warm as it usually is!" said SWMBO. That plus she thought she could "smell oil" by the boiler.
Oil boiler was starting then locking out, a 90-120 Riello RDB2 burner.
Checked the cap, first, AOK. Photocell clean, solenoid ok. Plenty of oil. Traced to the pump. Chucked a pressure gauge on and zilch.
Somehow I had a brand new pump sat in the garage! Chucked it on, set to 8bar and happy days!
Might try my luck with SWMBO tonight at this rate!

Just a quick fix. Replaced the old seat on my loader/backhoe with a new seat that looks better and is more comfortable. The new seat seems pretty well made, and it was cheaper than having the old seat reupholstered. It's an aftermarket seat, but all of the bolt holes lined up perfectly. You can see a bit of snow on the ground through the window, left over from the storm we had a few days ago, which started with snow, then sleet, and ended up with freezing rain. Lots of downed trees, power lines, etc. Most of the snow has melted off, and we're now officially in 'mud season.' Yay...

I have an AVO M2005 that's had segments missing on its bar-graph since 1992. Still works, still accurate (ignoring the bar-graph)...

This was mine the other day, I liked it as it was boxed, in good condition and I knew the pump washer was gone.
Yep, gone, well till there and a O ring bodge.
Unusual design as it uses a split pin to hold it together.
Correct seals.
@mrsbruce is this some kind of special leather for this?
The other seals were also replaced.
This is after I fired it up.

Some eejit left my Bluetooth earbuds in the pocket of my jeans and put them through the wash. 
Overnight in a bowl of rice brought the case and one bud back to life, but the other refused to connect. Cracked it open and it's wet inside, so a rinse under the tap in case there's any detergent left in there, and into the rice for an hour or so. Reassemble and remarkably, it's alive.

An oft used cupboard (the crisp cupboard) door needed sorting. The top hinge screws had pulled out of the chipboard.
Drilled the holes to 8mm and glued in some dowels:

Won't they still screw into chipboard ultimately?
These wooden dowels are much stronger.
Yes indeed - but I believe the "repairing plates" are attached to the chipboard with 4 screws though.

Fettling in a new peace of wood. The plan was to see if my home made wood dye would be any good.
Not bad, just trimming to fit.

Pulled from a skip, nowt moved on it.
It took an hour just to get it open.
Drowning it in de greaser.
You can see the black solid stuff, it was a pain to remove, do not force theses old machines, as things will break.
Getting there.
When the parts are free and moving you can start to set the machine up.
Cleaned and a bit of lubrication.
The paint was long gone, due to the rust, here I am just rubbing in bee's wax.
All working and ready to go.
