Was too late finishing on Fri to take pics as it was dark.
Had done my back in but was getting a hand from a friend who did the lifting. Sadly my EWM took a knock on the way round to the boat and it burst the button overlay
Nothing serious as button still works but very annoying as the welder was pristine when I got it.
Anyway got the chute welded up and fitted and all the steering components, including the auto pilots feedback, fitted.
Deck however has a serious dip in it, going to have to do something there, probably a wooden wedge. There will be rubber matting on the deck and out the chute so the wood will only be smoothing the edge rather than taking any abuse. Would have used Alu to make up the gap but the Boatyards forklift ran over the top of my 3 phase extension cable and knackered it so no more welding done at the boat until I can get that sorted and as the welding is otherwise finished on the boat then wood will do.
The problem is that the edges have been built higher due to the addition of hatch combings being added at a later point and I never noticed until it was fitted.
The deck is getting ripped up in the spring and redone so....
Day off yesterday to try and let my back get better and today I had to do a bit of work on the car.
CV Joint was seriously knackered but this is the first chance I have had and the weather was decent so got that done, no more clunky jerky wheel falling off sensations when on hard lock

Pic of one of the 6.9 Cheetahs, that I did the Alu alterations to over the last few weekends, at sea today.
Skipper is very happy with the performance that the additional length and buoyancy that the pods give, planes easier even with gear aboard and sits flatter when planing without kicking up the wash it did previously .

Yes but the other alternative of the driveshaft coming loose would have been more of a pain somewhere else which would be worse than the backThat is just what you need to cure a sore back..............struggling with CV Joints
Is that Lobster or Velvet Crab? Big Christmas market coming up.
Both velvets and lobster although both seem to be scarce inshore from what I have heard. Then again that is normal for this time of year as when I was on the boats we moved out to the Bell Rock grounds for the Winter.

Got a Forkard chuck today from eBay. I previously had a hydraulic one on my CNC but it was worn and caused chatter issues. Had loads of hard and soft jaws for it so I have been on the lookout for a manual one for a while.
It seems to be working fine although I can't check whether it is true or not as it is a Bayonet fitting at the moment and the mnual lathe is a D6 camlock.
The tapers are the same so I should be able to bore ad tap the back to suit the camlock studs.
Anyway I needed to make a chuck key for it so chucked a piece of EN24 and bored it out to 13.8mm and then transferred to the Chiron where I milled out a 14mm square with corner reliefs.
I then welded a temporary bar to the top so tht I could test out the mechanisim of the chuck, later I will extend the body and weld on a full sized cross bar.
I took a quick video of how this chuck operates but my internet at home is down and I can't manage to upload to youtube from the phone for some reason.

Phoneline at home seems to be semi working now, or at least the Internet side is although a bit slow.
Got the video of the chuck uploaded, showing the key I made.
About 8 full turns of the key for full in or out of the jaws, once released you slide to the position you want and then adjust back with the key to tighten. Makes life very easy as you do not have problems with swarf clogging the scroll and you can adjust from full dia to min dia way quicker than you could with a conventional scroll chuck.

Eventually got the AMC Cat finished , it has been a long haul.
Previously with the inboards/Sterdrives the water line was 115mm below the sea at the stern, now it is sitting like it should, nice and level.
Gales of wind here so no sea trials have been done yet but hopefully all will go fine.

A portable forklift charger!
Quite a simple job but made all the difference.
It is supposed to be wall mounted but we don't have a big enough single phase supply so I take it around to the warehouse next door for charging about once a month. The lads there are rather heavy handed bashing it around so I decided to mount it on an old sack truck. Very easy to move now that I have fitted some nice solid rubber wheels. Nice fetching bright yellow!
The scabby bit of wood is to give the 2 fans on the bottom clearance. All held together with some very heavy duty cable ties!

When the teeth are released from the jaws you slide them but there is a pall that clicks into the teeth so they automatically align where the chucks teeth will be when you re-engage them. So basically all that is needed is that you push each jaw in to the same position, much like you would do on a standard serrated jaw hydraulic chuck for a CNC.
I think I have a vid of me operating the CNC chuck when I got it, it might show things more clearly, will see if it does and post a link.

So had to get it back in the Chiron and mess around a bit to get the alignment correct.
Turned it into 6 sad Micky mouse lookalikes
And with the pins fitted.
