It IS a really dull bike. My cousin had one. I hated it. But as a practical commuter it probably can't be beaten. The built in storage box and the real-world 80mpg, not to mention the reliability...
I had an immaculate low milage XSR700 but i sold it when i moved, thinking it was going to sit and depreciate. (How wrong I was!). I miss that bike, it was sheer good fun, the engine was and is an absolute peach. The retro looks were the icing on the cake.
I now need a cheap bike that I can leave sat outside on the drive, so basically a sub £2500 bike, any more than that and I'd be nervous about it. May as well get as new as I can afford.
I'd get an MT07 if i could find one for £2500.

Ooo, converted treadle drive - or at least the bit it sits on is. And is it a short bed? How easy to get collets, gears and stuff for them?

Almost 20 years ago I raced in the R6 cup, they are horrid awful twitchy bikes but I was a top 5 rider and beat crutchlow and hill but my budget ran out before there’s did
The Honda is always smoother and easier to go fast with

I probably watched you race as I used to go along to some BSB races with my dad when the r6 cup was a support class, also watched them on TV when I could. You did very well running in the top 5 with that lot. Unfortunately racing is usually about who has most money. I wasn't originally going to race this year but am now as I'm doing a round of the Yamaha Past Masters' on a tzr250, should be entertaining as I've not ridden a 2 stroke before. As I'm paying for my license etc will do another couple of rounds but tempted to sell the R1 and get something a bit calmer, possibly a minitwin/supertwin.

Few bits and pieces for a Cat that I am putting a bigger steering ram on.
Pin for the rose joint, similar to the one I made the last day but just 25mm on the large part.
Welded to the 25mm x 3mm wall box.
I machined a couple of ends for the box and welded them in.
Completed rod.
Also made some side plates from 8mm 5083 with Acetal bushes for the rod to run through.
And a bracket from some 6mm 5083 for mounting the ram to.

I was once in a race at Mallory Park with James Toseland, me on my air cooler 250 single Hijera and him on his CB500, Kin ell was he shifting through the Esses! I just couldn't work out how he was doing it! I also "think" Leon Haslom was there another day on a 250 Vespa??. He beat me too

Spin it round I would imagine.How do you access the LH side for the gears, belt drive etc?

No idea but they are not exactly heavy weights so wouldn't take much to haul it round.It's on castors?
