Some interesting results with various powers/feeds and air assist on/off in Acetal or possibly Delrin.
Had to stop the middle one as it was giving off fumes.
The ones in each of the ovals are with same settings and without air assist, without being the right most of each.
Tried cutting (circle top left) at a high feed/power and lots of passes but seems like it gets about 1 or 2mm and won't go further. Slower feed with high power would likely fare better but may give off fumes so I am not trying at the moment

Thought I should contribute. Have left home, gone north about 1000km to southern Queensland for and engine replacement in a long liner. Out with the Volvo 163 and in with a John Deer, I think about 585hp at 1900rpm.

Had the engine mounts constructed several days ago, but needed painting and hardening so engine bolted down today and aligned. For those that are interested, alignment error down to .05mm.

Starboard side view, rear mount also incorporates the bell housing and gearbox.

again for those that are interested a closer look.

What's left to do, oil coolers for the gearbox and the hydraulics, the exhaust dry extension to the water mixer which is on the the opposite side of the turbo outlet and the 'oper house' that will hold the 24volt clutch pump and the power steering pump. I expect to be here another week.

My days of that kind of thing is long gone thankfully Not so bad if you are working with someone else but working on your own can be a PITA.

Must admit that the owner is helping, but my legs hurt and are swolen at the end of the day. These are quite fun to do with the right customer, but as you say I am now really too old for this. This one will probably be my last. When I get back home, rest a week and then go south about 400km to complete the vessel that I did the hydraulic on. That job will be the chiller recirculating and distribution pipe work and the live bait distribution manifold and pipe work. After that I thing that I am done, too old and I like sleeping in my own bed with the events coordinator at home!

The bracket fairies have been here and they were of the stainless variety

Both oil coolers now in. The forward one is for the hydraulics and the aft is for the gearbox. Enough for today as too hot here. In the morning start on the exhaust!

Finally got round to sorting one of my niggles in the HoP. Decided to make use of one of the gaps in the stonework to make & mount a holder for paper rolls.





It's just wedged tightly in there. No fixings, packers or foam needed.

Not going to have them stuck on the bench taking up space there now.

This afternoon I made a bit of progress on the lamp I started some time ago had a bit thinking to do I didn't want to drill through the jack to fix to the base so tigged a couple of studs in


not the tidiest but it won't be seen ( even though I've a quality mask I'm still struggling to see well when welding it's starting to tick me off ) roughed out a base from some old oak w/top


and chopped the studs to suit

there's some some more silicone bronze to fill up and grind then on to the wiring up now this maybe where the problems start where do I stand if I intended to move this on or should I not bother . Any how if I were to tap an earth point in the base out of sight do I need to earth the lamp holder . Next a good way to finish the metal work without losing the ( rust ) patina and making it all shiny ! @ TYA

I've been getting on with fitting some runners for drawers on my work table.


The drawers are 650mm long with a bewildering number of mounting points on the back. The first thing was to decide which holes to use. I used the slot at the front as an initial mounting point as it gave a few mm of adjustability. They are rated to 45kg per pair. I only have a bare frame so needed to make mounts for them.

Measured 6 inches down from the top 30mm in from the front, drilled and tapped M4. I usually end up mixing my units of measurement on a build. I used this mounting point as pivot to get the runner level and mark the rest of the mounting points.

The fitting for the centre two runners was harder as there's no leg in the middle to work off. I had to run a square down from the top to get the correct distance to the front.

Set of plates cut from 60 by 3mm strip. The strip was bent like a leaf spring unfortunately. They are welded on the frame and runners hang off them

A sweaty damp camera phone lens plus the light through the door gave a pretty photo effect.

There's plenty of room at the back to bolt items to the table if needs be without interfering with the drawers.

I when I built the table frame I kept flipping it around to ensure I was welding on the flat.
This time I left the frame upright and tried welding the mounting plates in postion. The welds are pretty shoddy as a result but they will hold the drawers up fine. I do have another excuse in that I omitted a washer when reinstalling the steel mig wire and the wire spool tension kept overtightening and binding as a result. With some paint, drawers and a worktop, no-one will see the mistakes.

A bit joinery is on the cards next to create the drawers.
