It’s been put to bed. This is my last post. That American twunt and his minions with lots to say but nothing constructive to offer this forum can have free rein. This forum no longer brings joy like it used to. I have asked the mods privately to close my account.

I would be sorry to see you leave on account of the 'wind bags'. Every forum I've been on, and that's very few. Less than five actually. Always has a minority who have to comment on almost every thread, generally they add nothing at all. their sole aim seems to be adding to their total number of posts.

Quite frankly I'm flabbergasted that it has taken this long considering what I do for a living.

Bust a gut today, finished welding these and working with brother to get all of these legs passivated, neutralised, and feet fitted ready to ship.
I still enjoy welding these, after doing 1000s of them, but passivating is a special kind of torture, we both hate it so much. Its not skilled work, but it takes care and attention to do it properly.

I bought an old, circa 1985, Hornady Pro-7 reloading press from a guy who was giving up shooting. It came with lots of useful bits that would replace stuff that I've made or borrowed. The press has a vertical tube that feeds primers into this little black cup that then swings sideways to line up with the brass case. Unfortunately, the plunger that prevents gravity from extracting too many primers has gone "Pingfekit" (as the Irish Air Corps put it) so I made one froma bit of white plasticky stuff I found in the shed and a piece of spring steel from an old electrical doodad. Imperial calipers and a metric lathe. Seemed to work alright.

Do you charge them hourly or per piece?

Per piece.
I've got the price pretty good on this, my brother and I make a really good hourly rate on them, we have a system for churning out batches as fast as I think anyone could do them.

It's hard to optimize the passivating though. You can only go as fast as the machine lets you.
One person is passivating and wiping the acid off.
The other person sprays and cleans off neutralizer, racks them up and fits the feet. Any extra time they have, they help wiping acid off.

Today, well yesterday and today, I made a couple of brackets for the rear suspension on a BMW 3 series.

I think I've been watching too many Indian videos, because these are available and cheap, but the car is up for the test tomorrow and I can't get them in time.
Anyway as I have the tools materials and inclination I thought why not.

This is how the originals started out on the car.

And after a quick clean up.

To make any sort of job I needed a jig so a piece of scrap 1/2 inch plate was pressed into service.
Also needed to make a couple of stand offs because there's a step in the brackets.

Started by cutting out the shapes from 2mm sheet with my turbo nibbler.
Then used my roller to put the beads in.

Then cut a strip of 2mm sheet, bent it around the shape and tig welded it together.

I was able to weld most of it while it was in the jig but had to finish it off after unbolting it.

Then drilled out using a hole saw so a pipe section for the step could be installed.

Then back in the jig, this time with the standoffs, to do the final welding. One of the holes was too close to the corner so I had to reposition but it's covered by washers so I'm not bothered.

Then a quick clean up

and blast for paint.

I can confirm they fit, I'll find out tomorrow if they please the MOT tester.
