What happens nest is those brass inserts fail, or rather the plastic around them does, due to the additional force you are pushing through them.

I bored out the end blocks behind the wheels and fitted two deep-groove flange ball races - massively reduced the effort required. And fitted some small aluminium hand wheels bought with a pilot bore from WDS.

I also partially bored out the end blocks and added some needle roller thrust bearings on each side of it for the friction years ago.

If the handles fail I'll just make new cast ones, this was just a quick and simple fix which should last me for a long time.

Spliced eyes are very common in tree work, it reduces the rope strength less than knots. Im following this process exactly.

Tonights attempt was with Ocean cord, this has a 50/50 mix of polyester and kevlar in the cover for abrasion and heat resistance.
I have been struggling to pull the core back through with various tools, then I found some expandable nylon cable sleeving, which I took from and old dead pc power supply. This became 1000x easier.

Top eye done but needs stitching. The bottom eye needs to be pulled tight untill the red line buries inside the cover ( hands were getting sore).

Well, I made my new parting tool fit the toolholder. Later today I am going to make the coolant work on it.




I will say, the tips are bl00dy expensive!

Yea nice little test at a nearby spot, bunch of old 10m tall railway viaduct pillars bolted for sport so I chose the "easiest" route (6a which actually was more like a 7a...) and managed to successfully climb it and bungee worked beautifully.

Now all I need is to make an on/off valve to control it. Well pleased.

This is the machine cutting freely with the coolant at full flow, my apologies for the "made with" advertising, I rotated the video and this is what I ended up with, serves me right for using a "free" third party app.

I did indeed Brad my grateful thanks, next up is a coolant through spindle mod for the Mill I think. I like this, makes things work that much better.

You need to “man up”. I did a higher one than that with only a piece of cotton thread to assist.
The cotton was used to stop my underpants from filling whilst the helicopter pilot assured me it was ok.
As far as the original post is concerned…….. a far braver man than me !

Figured out the technique to get reasonably neat beads formed and a few bends and welds later I’ve got a pair of Austin 7 tank hanger brackets.

For myself, back in the day, I just free-climbed up after shinning up a ladder.
Used a bow saw, or a pole-saw, and sometimes my lovely little Alpina 14" bar chainsaw, and took my time about it.
Never even roped myself in. ...
Precursive to road-racing, somehow....

Another... a used offcut (chainsaw ) of Liros Reef rope with a ring spliced.

They say used rope is much harder to splice. The cover is getting tight and near stuck already with 4" left to bury, its taking all my effort to move it milimeters.

I've put loops in nylon longnet head and foot lines by drawing the inner strands through the outer sheath with a needle and threading it up the standing part for a few inches. It holds quite firmly for that application. I found a sniff of pound shop silicone spray could help things along. However there were no big loads on any of those loops. Makes a lovely neat job when its done.

Here’s the home made axles fitted with wheels,although both are 13”, one was more worn and lower profile,so I’ve adjusted the stub axle to compensate,it rides so much better now.
Next mod is for an offset drawbar,to reach under the trees,and so I can see the mower!
