Moved the 3D printer to its new home, and started printing out some lathe tool holder brackets. Haven’t done a set up for it since moving the printer, and it does needs it. Even though, happy enough with the quality.

2 down, 6 to go.

I just about never, add anything to this thread, so here goes....

So, as you can guess I'm renovating an old French house, this is the kids bedrooms going in, I'm not a builder, but it doesn't stop me. I've been doing steel profile walls for plaster boarding, all going well, until this evening, using my hand as a hammer, caught the rail, and lacerated 3 fingers in one go!

Just last night I was wondering if I should be wearing gloves, but no, no problems. Only at the last moment it all went pear shaped. Blood stops play.

A big thank you to @mrsbruce for some random comment about insulation and holding it up with thin battens. Too tip! Thanks.

Fingers have stopped hurting and bleeding, don't think i can grip a spanner for a few days. But nothing too serious. Ho hum.

Hate Ali and steel framing with a passion. I'm a chippie though so of course I favour timber lol.

It's a question of cost, steel profile is not far off half the cost of wood, and it is a cunning system, and with my 'carp and try' skills. Well....

No, I've not done a post, my renovations are very slow, and I do have a tendency to take on stupidly huge projects on my own. Also I get peed off with criticism, when I'm just trying to do the best I can on a limited budget. But thanks.

Space, again.

Had to re-board the loft space, re-build and re-shelf the racking.
Then put it all away.

That was the "Repair". Terrible does not cover it. The "Fixer" had pumped so much heat into it the end caps, both ends, leaked. The pressure relief valve rubbers had melted. The pipe from boiler to piston had collapsed.




So sweat of the "The Blob". That showed how much the saddle bracket was bent out of shape.
So strip the piston off, bend back and replace the saddle bracket rivet with a sealed end pop rivet.




Not the prettiest repair. The solder ran freely. The ends caps were removed and re-tinned.
The sweated back on.
The pressure relief valve was repaired with new seals.




In steam. after a simple pressure test.



All cleaned up and all working.

The polishing of all the parts was done to clean. But I wanted to keep the look of age and use.
I like it that way.
Not to every one choice.

A few days ago I got this "Brickies" Hammer.
First looks showed it looed good.
But during cleaning a split along a growth ring was found. It would only show in use and you could feel it wanting to nip your skin.
So as I had a spare handle.



Off with the old, I saved the metal wedge.



A quick de-rust @ 12Vdc, 3amps and a water temp of 100deg C falling.



Fitted to the shaft, peins hardened and tempered, re-0ground. The shaft sanded and waxed 4oz of stained bee's wax.

We just know, unless they've been given a cover lesson for an absent teacher in our department, that a PE teacher appearing at our end of the school means they want something... had no idea it would be as obstreperous as this! A carbuncle of a folding frame that can't be easily disassembled nor the net removed; said I'd have a go but was not promising anything... if it breaks again I'm giving it a wide berth! Ended up cutting off the mangled bit shortening it and TIG welding it to a backing plate and then that to the frame. Not the prettiest of repairs and did manage to scorch the net... oops!

Today, fed up with moving the stuff on the floor [@The_Yellow_Ardvark : Note!] to get access to the low level cupboards in the cave, I knocked this up from odds & ends I had lying about - parts of it used to be a vegetable rack in the local Butchers' shop, so recycling taken to the extreme .

Rain stopped play, but I just have to paint it, cut to size and paint the shelves, and job's a good 'un.





As a bonus, it can act as a 'side trolley' for when I'm working at the lathe, mill or drill - as long as I can keep the top clear and not load it up with 'stuff'.......as you do!

made a bracket today that holds slack from the handbrake cable interfearing with the brake assembly.
when tightening some bolts that hold the stub axle on the bracket gave way close to the torque setting so made a new one.
you can see in the lower picture the 2 lower bolts that hold the stub axle is where it goes and you can see the handbrake cable currently poking out rather than connected to the lever on the shoe
soon as the paints dry it will go back on

Decided to use hot water for electrolosis last week.
Makes a huge difference to its its s and effectiveness.

Food for thought.
I knocked up a few table top trays like this for my small movable tables.
Means I don't knock bits off and I can take the whole top off and have a table clear for another job in seconds.
Excuse the mess. I did start tidying then the arbour press arrived

Couldn't you just do it in one go on the lathe? Don't bother welding it to the other bar just carefully pinch it in a 4 jaw and take light passes?

Maybe....I wasn’t confident about that,and my 4 jaw is a 12” one and takes half hour to remove and refit.

yeah well spotted, arb is an aftermarket one by kw/st performance
the origenal one snapped a clamp for the second time so fitted this one as its a lot stronger

I've got Eibach ones one of my mk1's and the other is standard. Looks like yours is pretty tidy underneath.

Today I made a locking tool for a Fiat Multijet DMF.
Rough and ready but what else do you do on a Saturday night when there's no one about.





Can't really complain about changing the DMF, this one did over 175K miles (but it was mullered).
Clutch would have lasted longer but no way am I going in this deep without changing everything.
