Finished off the roller ramp system this morning by fitting a couple of lids on the guide compartments. Quite chuffed that they fitted so well as each side is different and the angles are not right angles at the quarters. They are fitted down with M8 hex setscrews threaded upwards in the angle frame and wing nuts to hold the lids on. Atthe moment the skipper will have to undo 8 wing nuts (4 each side) to fuel up but a couple of round plastic hatches have been ordered so I will plasma cut a couple of holes in the lids when they arrive which will make fueling up quicker.

This is the last few days of MIS members hard work. Sadly due to health issues the 3 members needed to be at my house. 2 with the staff from the nursing home.
They are always welcome.
Now, all I supplied was the space, the tools and the help.
The supplied the bodies, the food and the "makings". Including shortbread fingers.

This is the before and after images.

I was kind of smug as well. The small lessons in the past are now coming together. Stuff we do is hard for my friends.




The hammer was cleaned and polished, using power tools and hand tools.
The shaft was not replaced, we didn't have one. but it is well fixed. The shaft was sanded back, then oiled and waxed.
The shine you see is how well it was waxed.



This one was thrown into the mix, fiberglass shaft. Something that was new to them.
The head needed the claws reshaped as one broke when being cleaned.
The shaft was cleaned with help from "Youtube."
No power tools used on this. The only non hand tool was the gas torch to re temper the claws.





This one had the staff a bit worried. A 4.5" grinder was brought into the play. The sparks was a cause for concern. But I proved it was safe.

No sanding was done. just "Meths.", scrapers, wire wool and a soft wood buffer.

What was an insight to them was how long it takes to use an oil stone to restore a blade.


There is other bits in the half way house, more of that later.

They have gone home now, happy.
The staff now have a better understanding of what they want to do in there Shed of shoot.

Saved this from the tip cast bits were in some scrap metal the oak was a floor that was took out only a rattle can and stainless steel coach bolts bought.

Wasnt today, but forgot to upload on friday. I made a plain boring screeded floor look far more pleasing on the eye. Still got about 40sq m to do

Had an afternoon in the kitchen today, courtesy of it being seriously dreich outside.

Put a batch of bolognaise sauce on, enough for tea and a couple of extra portions for next week, and while that was cooking, had a play with my new pasta machine. Delighted with the results, and I actually danced joyously round the kitchen when tagliatelle appeared before my eyes . More chuffed than a chuffed thing with my first attempts at making pasta.

Since it was such a beautiful autumnal day here today , I made progress towards swapping over to my Winter alloys. Dug them out from 'storage', quick blast with the hose and a lick over the inner rims with some Chemical Guys Wheel Guard I found in a cupboard.

I'll either do the outer faces before fitting, but that's less important as it can be done post-fitting.



These alloys really need a refur'b, but that'll not be that this year - maybe next.....

But before then, I'll have to introduce the spacers to the wire brush to get rid of all the historical crud and hardened copaslip on the mating surfaces......

Dro wired up to the mains no more messing with batteries. And the suds pump wired up to a switch.

Fresh made pasta is way better than shop bought. I go overboard and make lots, hang it on a little wooden frame until it’s dried, and it still tastes better than the shop stuff, but prefer fresh made.

Another busy day. Took the afternoon off, and decided to get some more stuff done in the huts. Welding corner now finished, shower rail up, the pvc(?) welding curtain fitted, and a couple more lights and switches wired in.

I then took one of my leather swivel knives and popped it into the lathe using an ER32 collet. Again, having small hands, these adjustable knives are really too long to be completely comfortable to use. But I’m happy with the difference made to it. I turned down about 4mm of knurled section, and parting off about the same amount off one end. I’m going to do the same to my other one.

I’ve also used the mill to change some of the tool holders for the lathe. I have some larger lathe tools, so milled out the holders by 2.5mm, allowing the bigger tools to be properly centred, and thus used.

I also discovered the wooden top of the stand the mill is on, was looking a bit dodgy, so cut up a couple of 20mmx 40mm rectangular metal stock, drilled and bolted them underneath. All now stable again.

One last thing, now why didn’t I take photos.

Thought I’d better at least add a generic picture of the knife, so that the post makes some sense.

Following OH’s instructions, I just used ordinary plain flour and eggs and had no idea what it would taste like, but other than being a mite thicker than shop-bought pasta, it tasted just the same. Looks like I’ll be making pasta-based tea on Saturday nights from now on when OH finds out .

Get the 00 grade flour next time it will make the pasta way more stretchie and let you roll it thinner.
