I too have put in an undercroft/ mezzanine level ( ten yrs or so ago ) and have done as you have done wrt the rods , I have eight tubes holding arc rods and three tubes holding lengths of welding or brazing rod IIRC .
May I suggest you use a fine point sharpie & write the rod size & type on both end caps … it's handy when you have three or four tubes out . Found after a couple of years I had to lay tubes on top of the undercroft as they started to slip down out the spring clips .

It's also handy to have a spare pair of end caps ready for the next tube you find you suddenly need .

Ryman have a wee Brother label maker at half price so I picked one up the other day - it has been put to good use doing exactly that and with more precision than a fine Sharpie in my hands could ever do!
Indeed... have enough tube and fittings for another few canisters should (when!) the need arises!

Had a hell of a job getting an antlered stag in the back of a Landrover on a black as coal slashing rainy night when I was stationed in Germany back in 1970 before anyone came along the road . The cook turned coat and told the officers mess cook that he had a decent road kill deer …. I never saw it after that .

not unless it is right next to the work piece/arc

How this happens?
Because Molten metal isn't magnetically active (passed 800°C magnet can't stick on it)
I felt more arc blown issues caused by the ground clamp than magnet (I have just a big magnet that I use to tack small parts)

It's not so much the molten metal as destabilising the arc.

Can you describe what happens if you use a magnet?
AC or DC ?both?
Always eard about but never completely understood

I have not tried AC as I only use that for ali and magnets do not stick to ali ;-)

But on steel you try tacking up with stick get any where near a magnet with the arc it throws the arc all over the place

There are three small countersunk neodymium magnets Under the base; you can see the tops of the M5 countersunk bolts. I used them as they were much cheaper than one single larger magnet, and I have another two left for other things.

Something like long arc ing? That should be a pain with 7018

Yes, magnets can deviate the TIG tremendously - I have several cheap, yet very powerful, Aldi/Lidl magnets that I seldom use for TIG welding!

A couple of improvements to my smoker... A new coat of paint, wheels, a rack for log storage, new handle on the firebox, fitted the new air intake and added a folding shelf. The shelf brackets need some black paint and the wood needs some stain on it.

I like the second one, and the garden + shed look great too.
