I made a cart for moving the little genny I use to power the olive harvesting kit and other things mostly it stays on the truck but I have a few trees that I can't get the truck near enough so I have to carry the genny a bit nearer . I'm getting fed up with carrying anything I don't have to so I made this ... the wheels are off the rotivator that was nicked last year ..so I re -purposed them, and the wheel bearings are old cambelt tensioners from the truck ....

I just gave it a lick of paint and a trundle around with the genny on board ...but did not take any photos ...sorry ...Edit ...This was made without buying anything, just bits of old stuff that I fill up my life with ...I love that ....

Tidy welding there,

Cut out the ends from a 3ft long 220mm dia roller pictured below after they had been removed.

Spent the afternoon, cutting and sewing a new leather for my gaff saddle on my old boat Marihøna.
The hide is easy 5 mm thick, and it put up a fight.. whatever animal was wearing it, I wouldn't like to meet it down a dark alley!
I cut, drilled and sewed it dry, next is to saturate it in Neatsfoot Oil.
The paint is 2 coats of non-ferrous metal primer, followed by 2 coats of Dulux white gloss. The white gloss is tricky, it takes several days to go hard, next time I will try thinning it but you aren't meant to.
The metal shoe is hardened steel with bronze eyes welded on, hence the 'special metals' primer.

Slightly chuffed with my virginal leatherwork so far..it could be habit-forming!
Also, the leather smells intoxicating and I can't stop sniffing my fingers

My wife’s repainted the originals last week.

So these are the 19 year old ones,wife’s repainted the gates and fence,interesting that the worst corrosion is around the latches,rather than ground area.

The leather gaff saddle I made, plus a cheeky knife sheath, are soaking in Neatsfoot Oil. They have absorbed a couple of pints..

Alas, when I got it home and had a close look it was obvious that it would not fit on the left hand side of my spindle. (Work it out).

I have, like many people on this forum, several of these collecting dust

Damned tough bits of steel from I forget whom.

Anyway, after an afternoon I ended up with one of these

I just need to drill and tap a couple of holes for retaining screws because the idiot that made the spindle (No, not me) put a right handed thread on it

Pity my pillar drill is in pieces awaiting new bearings...

Easiest way would be if you had a taper attachment.

As Hood says, with a taper attachment. But it was well outside the range so had to set and clamp using toolmaker's clamps as you can see here

If you have decent timing you can wind the cross feed manually as you cut the thread. Much easier if you have a large wheel on the cross slide like I added to mine.

My timing is terrible.

My first ever knife sheath, made with offcuts what I have lying around. Very satisfying even though it's a bit crude.
(One of those knives was forged by Kent of Bowland blades, it takes a wicked razor edge!)

Today I made and fitted a new side gate.
Was a bit of fun getting it to fit as the walls both bow inwards

A day or two ago I acquired a bench-top ratchet clamp from Axminster:

I already had some of the ratchet versions of F-clamps in the range and thought this looked quite good but I'd been putting it off as the details on the website said that it was suitable for benches up to 30 mm thick (and mine is about 53 mm thick).

Having had a look at the photos on the website I realised that the threaded bit is attached to the sliding bar with a couple of (M5) cap screws, so I decided to take a punt and get one. Conveniently, I had a length of 25.4 mm (1") 303 in stock, so today I made this:

and here it is fitted (the wrong way round - I only realised after taking the photo but couldn't be bothered to take another one):

In practice, it doesn't tend to actually need to be clamped down to the bench (so the shorter screwed bit would be fine), but if I want to have a bit more clamping force, then I can fix it in place now.

I really didn't enjoy milling that 6.5 mm wide, 19 mm deep, 40 mm long slot in stainless steel, but the rest was quite fun. I'd never cut a thread as coarse as that (2.5 mm pitch).
