Actually I cheated and put the die in a die stock in a vice and the head of the cap head in the cordless drill chuck and let the drill do the work (in two passes with the split die open then closed). I didn't think it would work, but it did!

Done that trick a few times when restoring tools. Both cutting new threads and cleaning up old ones.
The longest I did. All be it a bit different.
1m x M12 threaded bar. Fixed 2 nuts and locked them up, socket adapter and ran the bar through a die nut. The coating was so uneven it was impossible to hand spin a nut down the bar.

My recent purchase, a cold cut saw (https://www.mig-welding.co.uk/forum/threads/help-identify-a-chop-saw.102579/), needed a material clamp.

I dug through the pile of 'why the hell are you keeping that' or 'I hit my shin on that box or metal crap again' as the misses affectionately calls it. And cobbled together a pretty sturdy clamp.

I think it came out well and stuff definitly doesn't move when you crank the handle.

Due to wood being wood and moving and changing size.
I needed to make a scraper.
I don't need one, I have a few.

But this was fun and I need to keep the sanity.



This is why I made it.



Some wooden pan supports had warped. Opening up some gaps.
The gaps were filled with hard wax. Then the scraper was used to level and back fill the wax.

Plus de nib the blocks where to polish and sealer had attracted dust and 1 fly.

Today I drilled some holes in one of my balls

I seem not to have taken any pictures of the sleeve fabrication, but it went in and is welded at one end

It fits nicely. Now I just need to fill it with lead, trim the end and weld a plate over the filling hole.
Then onto the second one.

Not today, but I madd a mount for the replacement X-axis scale for my mill. Not pretty but this scale is so large I don't think there are any such options on the table. I believe it will be temporary, this is only a 2-axis DRO so I believe I will buy a 3-axis setup in the future and move this one to the lathe, it's a good fit for the lathe.

One snag so far, the new scale counts exactly 2X everything. This means the pitch inside the scale is 20um instead of 40um like my earlier scales. Fortunately Heidenhain has superb service and even for this 1970/80s model they were able to find instructions, I need to cut one leg of an IC and solder it to another leg and it will count half on that axis.

Maybe not the best layout but doing what I can to blend new stones with existing rows.

what i have been doing



the floor is old 1800 and yes they are 4x3s for that floor beams inbetween beams

it needs an american carpet its that large of a room 17ftx17ft

we dont like kitchen and lounge together so with @Burdekin reference bathroom its now being fitted to the left instead of through the doorway on the right kitchens now going through the doorway and better planned out than before


though we are wondering what this is in the ceiling for



old chimney opened back up with original stones in it



the house next door should be a listed building but it has never been put under one as its an original farm cottage build oldest in the area

the cottage you see is an add on the roofs are broken back roofs and extension add ons to the original build of the cottage

Not really made today as it’s been an ongoing thing, but here is the first fire in my fire pit made from an old expansion vessel. Very pleased with the result, and a thumbs up for Aldi/Lidl high temp paint which seems to have stood up well

Recently a friend gave me a lot off Wooden Planes.

I restored a few. But a friend who needed some help in the trouble times, so I gave him the rest to restore.
His first big restorations.
Up shop is that his Local MIS has a lot of working planes.

But, it is a bug bear of mine that some users will use a metal hammer to force the wedge in, set the blade and beat the wedge out.
There is no need. You can simply make a wooden mallet to do the job. This does not damage the wooden plane.

So, I made another one.



3 bits of scrap wood. The 2 outer ones are the same size. The inners ones are cut to suit the handle and tapered at 1:7, as are the 2 wedges.

The head is doweled, only to give a bigger surface area for the PVA glue. Tip, I used a dowel chamfer tool to make the driving of the dowels in a lot easier.




Assembled, the blocks are glued as are the dowels. The handle and wedges are not. The cam action of the wedges will lock the head in place. The handle was also tapered to the same as the wedges.
I used normal PVA this time, not the quick drying one.
When driving the wedges in listen for the sound change, you will hear it as the wedges lock.



Yes, a short shaft, you want the weight of the head to lock the wedges and shock it loose. Brut force is not needed. You tap, not whack.


Shaped, one face is angled so it strikes the plane body flat. The other is cut to from a "Cross Pein". This is for setting the wedge.



The shaft is trimmed to suit most hands. My friend is making is own to suit his hand.


Soaking in Linseed oil, went in weighing 1Lb.



Came out weighing in at 1lb4Oz's. This adds more weight and give sit a nice finish.



Finished.

If you have hard wood for the head, beech is best, and a red wood for the handle you can make wood working mallet the same way.

Made some new bolts for locking doors on my A7. Originals inside the door frame were a bit too close to the edge of the timber frame and might have split the wood. Added new bolts just inboard of the old ones.

This Circular saw was "repaired by a club member.
I quote.
" I do this all the time, I have been doing for 40 years now and not had an issue with it yet, so don't tell me that Health and safey will tell me it is not suitable. Time is on my side."



Yes, some one had cut the cable, fixed it with 3 core flex onto a 2 core power lead. Insulated with paper masking tape.

"Are you thick or something? Every child knows paper is safe as it does not conduct."




Close up off the second repair, after PAT man cut the plug off.

Not a 100% fix.
But I have fitted a new 2 core cable, correct rated one and correct insulation grade as well.
