Actually I cheated and put the die in a die stock in a vice and the head of the cap head in the cordless drill chuck and let the drill do the work (in two passes with the split die open then closed). I didn't think it would work, but it did!
Done that trick a few times when restoring tools. Both cutting new threads and cleaning up old ones.
The longest I did. All be it a bit different.
1m x M12 threaded bar. Fixed 2 nuts and locked them up, socket adapter and ran the bar through a die nut. The coating was so uneven it was impossible to hand spin a nut down the bar.
