A friend will lend you the tools, you will borrow them from him. And we say "desolder." It's good to see that you're making headway with this. Watching with interest.

Best Boy's Cheapo Chinese bike's twistgrip broke, nipple pulled through the plastic... Temp repair got him going but left him with a sticky throttle, time for a new twistgrip barrel:

Yes it’ll have either fibreglass matting or stainless wool inside it.

Got this the other day, the old look and the general appearance appealed to me, yes I am appealing.
I was assured it worked, was PAT tested and was good to go.
So I parted with funds.





How ever getting it home it did not give an output, so a quick look inside showed what a mess, not even a lash up.




Yes, there is only one wire connected to the variable resister. Worse to come. The bridge rectifier was shot.



It was never going to work.


So.
As I liked to looks I had a coffee and hatched a plan.

I liberated some bits I had stored with a friend.



A modern 12vdc 2amp Power supply was looked at. Normally this is used power CCTV cameras, cctv pir or keeping batteries on charge for wireless systems for immediate replacement by a customer.



So out with the modern part.




Half way through the rebuild/update/repair.
The plan was to keep the outside as original as possible.
Hence with the mains in cable uses the original hole lined with a leather washer.



Rebuilding the rebuild.
All set to go, then the amp meter let go. Hence why you can see 2 crimps on it.



Done, working and looking good.
LHS switch is mains on/off.
RHS switch is DC output on/off.
I have plans to locate a replacement meter.
Mains in is protected with a 3amp fuse.
The DC is a 2amp supply so that is also protected with an inline fuse, liberated from the output side of the original PSU.

Lend & borrow are two words most native english speakers mix up something rotten too. How many times do we get people asking if they can lend something?

You could always add “in case of emergency, break glass”.

Very nice use of old tools, and a perfect present for “the man who has everything”. I see an earning opportunity on the horizon.

More updates on the attempt at drainage in my garden. I dug a bit more at the side of the hut, and water is now seeping towards the drainage hole, and (hopefully) not over the slabs.

I bought a large metal raised garden bed, and started to fill it with a mix of the clay out of the drainage hole I dug, old compost, and stones.......

It may take longer to fill than I thought.

As an added extra, I’ve flung in a picture of my tomato plants, doing tomato planty things. I was late starting them off this year, so they’re doing not bad.

Sorry, but got over excited, the sun’s shining.



Just to add, the sieve is only temporary, and is to stop ‘the lodger’ from trying to investigate the little drainage tunnel.

Here is my new to me stove roaring away nicely.

But then the fuel turns into a jet of liquid fuel and you get this.



Then it either goes out, or returns to a nice flame.

I may be baffled.

Got the tube bent and then the brackets welded on. Could have done with another pair of hands to get the insert tacked in place.

Once that was done the welding was easy enough, both now finished.

Stuffed in the car ready to drop off at the powder coaters tomorrow morning.
