Sit down folks, it's getting exciting (or perhaps not)
This evening I made one end of a short offcut of drain pipe (thanks @Bobtail4x4) slightly smaller...

One end was the perfect size (it's going into a 68 mm right angle drain bend), the other was just too big, so I had to skim a bit off. That was a fun exercise in work holding in the lathe...
I did that earlier on today with a five inch long lump of 110 mm soil pipe ( unused ) I wound out the three jaw 5 inch chuck and got a good fit on the jaws then took the parting tool to it . . Almost got it faced when number three jaw came adrift and went & hid in the scrap metal box under the lathe .
Once reassembled I actually slid the tube over the chuck this time used my odd leg callipers to get it nearly set up , and opened the jaws to lock it in place & turned a perfect square face ., whipped it off turned it round then did a repeat . On checking it with a digital calliper it's 9 thou out of parallel on the turned faces . Good enough for what I want .... this time round .
