I love it. Not sure how well it would work, I think it curls best slightly soft, fully cooled I think it would break apart before it curls. I might try it, lots of top rake, slow speed high feed would be your best bet I think, feeding straight in like a form tool.

Wired up a foot switch for lathe, in series with the run enable. This could be unsafe, if I stop and forget to turn the run swich off and the step on it! I could use the E trip switch, which cant restart, however I think it'd be useful, it will free up a hand and concentration from reaching at the wall.

I dread to think what I'd have to spend on CDs to listen to as much as I do on Spotify.

Ive just seen my Spotify "Wrapped" so I can actually sort of answer this now. Apparently this year I discovered 773 new artists, assuming that's one album each, and I think I used to pay about seven or eight quid for a CD, that's six grand!

My land rovers alternator was bodged on by the chap that fitted the tdi its been sitting slightly wonky for about 6 years it had a far to narrow piece of mild bar spacing it out so it has a tendency to bend over time then the belt squeels

So today i had enough and finally sorted it, measured the offset from the engine mount for the new spacer. We then find the mount had been filed wonky
The plan was to mill the engine mount parallel to the base but i haven't yet made the m16 to 3/8 16 draw bar adapter for the collet this had to he done first,cut the thread on the harrison first lathe ive run with a dro what a treat glad to have learnt with dials and dti's but it's a treat to turn a part and it is exactly what the screen says it is.


Then milled the base, the beaver mill im pleased i kept it in storage for so long waiting, its a lovely machine to run



Then to swear as its a pig to fit, but we have a straight alternator

I did note the mount holes are wallowed at some point I'll rebore and bush them.

Finally managed to use my husky/jonsered
Cut some firewood .
Biggest log diameter roughly 8" or 20 cm .
It does work very well .
Just two issues .
When cold it doesn't rev up quickly ,I have to half pull the throttle twixe to clean the engine and then it can go from idle to maximum rpm in a fraction of second but it does work.
I have to sharpen the chain because I've hit the ground .
The second issue is that I have to refresh a thread because the ground wire from the switch will come loose while using and instead of shut down the engine it will run at very low rpm in off position (a stroke or two every second)
Other than that I'm pretty happy with it .
Remember that I've saved this chainsaw from a trash bin so I can't really complain about this problems .

Sounds like you need to richen it up on the slow jet just enough to make it pick up

I can open high jet up to 4 turns it will work just fine .
It's actually around 1+¾ or 2 .

My sister has just phoned that BIL has just died from a massive heart attack [1], so I don't suppose I'll be handing them out

Just finished lining a "table" in lead.
2mx1m sheet........first go at lead welding...........got the hang of it by the end.

It's going to hold gravel and will get wet.

I went out and got trolleyed...

Black Friday sales thoroughly destroyed my inbox and I've never really seen the point in buying a fancy new TV when my 13-year-old one still works, so I squandered on a new toy: a thicknesser. I'd wanted one for a long time, but felt like the lack of space was a bit fundamental. It probably still is (I only have a vacuum cleaner for dust extraction due to space again) to be honest, but I bought one anyway!

I made a trolley for it, mostly out of 30 × 30 × 2 mm box section, with some plywood sides and some 20 × 20 × 2 mm "wings" to provide material support (with a roller made out of my next-door-neighbours old TV aerial pole). The trolley lifts the thicknesser up high enough such that it can feed out onto my workbench or table saw, while also sliding through the (very narrow) gap between the table saw in its parked under the bench position and the motorbike. The desire to get the thicknesser up high is part of the reason for making a steel trolley with heavy duty drawers - the low-down weight should help stabilise everything.

The back panel gives storage for the dust extraction port and a couple of different adaptors:

The brass knurled knobs were a case of me getting carried away!

The material supports look like this when they're swung up:

They can be adjusted very accurately to be at exactly the same height as the bed, using a couple of M6 cap screws on the end of the support arm. I'd spent ages trying to figure out how to get an angled surface for the cap screw to rest on (not that it would have mattered that much really). In the end I used a small off-cut of angle iron and ran a TIG weld bead along the corner:

and this is what it looks like when its parked between the lathe and motorbike (using some space freed up by mounting my lathe tool holder rack to the ceiling):

While I was at it, I also glued two lengths of MDF together (actually the moisture resistant stuff as I had some left over from something unrelated). I wanted the resulting sheets to be flat and was lacking a good supply of big flat surfaces, so I clamped them to my dining-table/office desk (which is made out of a bit of 40 mm oak kitchen worktop):

I then trimmed it to fit through the thicknesser, added some blocks on the corners to hold it against the rollers of the trolley's "wings" and covered the top surface in some UHMW-PE tape:

The idea of the MDF is that it gives a continuous flat surface for the wood to run on as it goes through the thicknesser. I did a quick test after taking this photo and couldn't detect any snipe in the planed piece of wood so I'm really pleased with how well it works.

I'll probably have to take it all apart when the weather warms up so I can paint it (although I said that about the table saw trolley and still haven't got round to it - I'm glad I don't have a rust problem in the workshop!).
