I hope your gate is the only way for Joe Public to access the town wall - we all know how careless/stupid he can be and you'll not want to be peeling the remains off those round bars. You'd be forced to repaint them......

It’s in a private garden, though the owner has a gite in the grounds, and sometimes lets the main house, so doesn’t want anyone going up to the top parts of the garden.

I also remember how those damned grub screws in the brass collets never stayed done up, and the day the dog chewed the plastic red handle on the screwdriver....lot more painful building things after that!

Plastic handle, must be fairly modern. I had a bent wire screwdriver, never had a kit, just a load of bits & pieces, all old, must have come from Noah’s toy box. The only new bit was a clockwork motor that I bought.

Just a cheap one I had for a few years but didn't see before.
When I bought it it wasn't advertised with this name nor Mitutoyo and pic didn't show it neither.

Need to get a better one. Indicator is good enough for trying in vices but the dove tail is crap.

Finally managed to get the framework of the roofrack for my Nissan van stuck together:



Which was quite interesting in a workshop with not much clearance . Hopefully get some paint on it next week then I can get on with making the sides from the gorgeous plank of sapele that's lurking behind it:



Might have to invest in a decent table saw though as my home-made effort isn't performing as I'd hoped

Its messed the belt sizes up a bit but given me more speeds closer to my needs

Yes there is a but.

The bucket is water tight, but when turning the paddles to churn the mix.
The churn has sprung a lot of micro leaks.

We had Meccano as kids but were never bought the 'kits' - use your imagination and design your own.

EDIT: Maybe I'm just too old for the kits to have been thought of.....

Maybe just lost the kit boxes and instructions by the time you were old enough to remember?

My mum used to be annoyed (probably still is) about my grand parents giving away all her brothers massive collection of Meccano when they had a bit of a clear out, rather than pass it on to her/me.

Bit of scrap ali sheet with the corners hole sawn out to cover my gate electrical box. Etch primed, to be rollered satin black to match the rest of the metalwork:

TBH I find just one peg (C spanner) easier / quicker to use than the 4 pegged "bought" one I have.

Well not just today as the dog needed to go squirrel chasing in the park (squirrels 3 : dog 0 but he enjoyed himself ).
Bought some stainless box from the scrappers a bit ago, the tube came out of the skip at work (show you how long I've been collecting bits ), the lump of granite is left over from a piece of kitchen worktop I bought to make a marking out table years (donkeys) ago!


Epoxied 4 screws into the granite to hold the legs on.







Just need to drill and tap the feet to allow some nylon pads to be screwed on.

Rough sanded then oiled the bottom side, for the table top, which I'll flip over tomorrow, screw them on, fine sand and oil the rest of it.

(almost) finished my big pin. Turned to size, parted off, and then realised I needed to face the open end to size, and the 90mm big end won't go through the spindle. Basically I didn't plan the operations properly since its such a simple part, Doh. I'll have to chuck it again and use a steady.

Trying new boring bar. Havent ordered the correct inserts yet so I ground a worn ccmt to fit the pocket and tilted it over a few degrees.
