This is a scrap heap challenge fly press / work bench.

I refused to ay the stupid cost of steel so routed around the pound for some steel, all dam galv`d aswell and cut up an old workbench that is galv`d scaff. Needs must

Got the top from work as they were throwing out a load of old welding tables and benches etc so got two of them, one 15m x 1.1m for this and other a bit bigger made from 3mm sheet folded edges aswell.

so at long last fly press is in place although i cant bolt it down yet as the concrete is only a few weeks old.


Sliced the cut line to bend it up. it was a bit deep and still is but have a splash back now lol

Heavy little bugger this one. good job i bought the lift when i got that.

The crane is invaluable in the home workshop. My has helped me move stuff on my own that I just couldn't budge! It made the move a lot easier too. Love the fly press, a great addition!

it came in handy to empty the bulk bags of slate that came for the garden aswell lol got a good height on it to do that.

I bought mine when I got the lathe from @eLuSiVeMiTe and have never looked back!

I got the tool post base drilled and fitted. The handle is not attached yet, but Im thinking a 3 o'clock position at a slightly higher angle wont interfere with the qc handle.

I have no flat surfaces in the shed so needed to find a home for this 12v power supply. Use it for many things, mostly lipo charger, but now it will also run the fan.

Fan housing. I have drilled the end since but need to open it up and tig on the ovaled tube adaptor.

Last night I needed some small shims. So turned up a couple of tools on the lathe, it's two pieces with a sharp lip around the outsides of each piece.
Hammer the outer tool into the material on a hard surface to cut the outer circle, and then insert the inner tool, hammer on that to cut the inner circle.

"Made" might be stretching it, but I did put them up and got rid of more scrap wood from the garage and house in the process.

I am really trying this time to get tidy and stay tidy.
Sorting stuff out is actually quite traumatic when it gets too bad, you can't see the wood for the trees.
I can lose stuff in the blink of an eye, put it down and then can't find it. A tidier, more organised space has to help with that I hope.

In fact I am hoping to get a new welding helmet sometime soon and unlike all the people who like black, I will be getting bright red or yellow just so it's easier to find it and that is not a joke.
Although I can be in an almost empty room working and lose stuff. I was once fixing a TV bracket to the wall and lost one of the special wall anchors for it after drilling the holes.
Eventually found it in the vacuum cleaner bag that I'd used to pick up the brick dust. Hours of madness that caused. so tidy might not even work for me

I feel your pain. My next workshop, as it will be filled from scratch, I will ensure it stays tidy (I hope!)

I dream of a tidy workshop.

As I've said before Don't tidy up you will never find anything again. I did at the beginning of lockdown and was amazed at the stuff I didn't remember having but that was balanced by the amount of stuff I've not seen again.

Howdens in frame. New range. What a pita. Each piece of frame needs to be cut and installed. Or cut and fixed to an end panel. Tedious and time consuming.




My units are plumb. The cooker is level on the horizontal. Not level on the vertical. Looks like it might have had a knock. Being collected Wednesday

Been a busy few weeks with handrails and wall tops

There was also 400mtrs of railing along a wall that looks horrendous as the engineer decided it had to follow the wall and ground exactly and the concrete work was terrible so didn even take a pic of it
