Mostly parts for upgrading itself the past few days. The green parts are all abs and vents and ducts and guides and shrouds to go on the new hotend & gantry that its getting as part of the conversion its getting. And another PA-Pure nylon gear for the lathe complete with oily smudges from test fit. Now waiting for a horticultural grow tent to arrive to put everything inside to do some asa prints for some car bits as printer is too big to fit in the 3d printer enclosure tents they sell and my workshop is getting too cold overnight on long print jobs for abs and asa printing un-enclosed. Funny thing is, the horticultural grow tents are the same materials but half the price of the 3d printer ones too.

I have an ender 5. But never printed with it yet.
I am hoping to get round to it next week as I need to print some gridfinity bases and I think 8 x 8 will print on ender 5 max.

Update....I don't have an ender 5.
It is in fact an ender 3 max with BL Touch fitted.

And I have a problem....
Ok guys after much pulling out of hair I finally found was was the problem with an ender 3 max I purchased a long time ago now.

It came with octoprint and its giving me a little issue.

Probably nothing to do with Octoprint and I am guessing it would do the same if I were to use an SD card.

BUT here goes. If I print a file that came with the printer/octoprint it works fine as far as I can tell. Its a file sliced for petg but whilst it was too hot for PLA it started printing just fine. I did not have to adjust a thing.

So rather that chuck some PLA in , as I have never printed with Petg I did not want to tempt fate as I would not be able to tell if it was filament/ printer/ or my slicing etc ( should anything not print well)

SO I set up a new printer in Cura and set it for PLA and set it to print. The problem I have is that its at least 10mm above the bed.

But a presliced file prints as if its bang on height wise.

It has BL Touch fitted and as I have never used one I am wondering if I need to tell cura the printer is fitted with one?

I am pretty stumped just now sadly.

You do. The difference is the distance from nozzle to BL Touch sensor. I had to upload suitable firmware which included the function.

Don't forget that you need to set your Z axis offset as well, I think mine was several mm when I had an ender s1 pro. About 26 minutes in on this video,

True enough. I think mine was around the -10mm range, but it has been sold some time ago and the memory is cloudy.

Not watched it yet.
But to be clear.
The printer was set up with BL Touch when I purchased it. It prints fine with files sliced with prusa slicer by the guy who sold it me.

It only sits about 10mm above the bed churning out spaghetti when I slice with Cura.

It suggests to me that the offset has been coded into Prusa software, when it is supposed to be put into the Ender's configuration.

There is pre and post code box. But sadly I can't just cut and past.
Hopefully I can work out how to copy it and paste it so i can read it and alter it.

Put it into the Ender's hardware, not into Cura.

I will do when I am 100% clear it's contained in the pre sliced files I had with the printer. (Second hand).

To me it suggests if it did, it would mean that the firmware already knows how to probe and its offset, then cura just inserts a G29 at the start of the print to tell the firmware to do its probe height and bed auto levelling at the start.
So if there's a G29 inserted in the original files, but not in your newly sliced ones, then this might be the thing your missing.

If you do a straight g29, I think depending on firmware config, it usually does a full bed probe every time, but there's a way to just use the sensor to touch off z in a single probe.

I had this on resume when I first moved to kipper on the pad for printer control, I forgot to tell it to do a g29 to set Z, and it used to resume prints after a interruption but instead of re-probing it just started 10mm or so above the last layer making a mess. I messed about with re-startup stuff in kipper itself to fix it irrc, but I am slicing with a new version of prusa so I'll look if i put something in the pre-print startup section for it instead.

Sounds silly but I did not see it start. I was trying to get it to print from octoprint. Its rather slow, and did not indicate it had started. I will check on monday.

I have been reading up on it. I got a screen shot of Octoprint start and finish codes.

I also have the Gcode for presliced files. The lad I got it off cant help as he only uses prusa slcer but due to ill health has not got a replacement printer eyt.

Awesome. I am just glad people can understand what I am saying, especially when I dont know what I am saying myself. lol
