Hi Guys,

Does anyone want a copy of "The book of Welding". Before you all get too excited, it is a product catalogue detailing some of our (Lorch) products.

However also in there is some process knowledge (Mig,Tig,MMA) etc and also explains the differences between A,B and C brand manufacturers. (Western European, Eastern European and Far East manufacturers)

I'll be happy to post you one F.O.C.

There are some seriously lovely bits of welding equipement in there.

just noticed on the saprom system it compensates for arc length, if you have the shakes. Does this mean that even after a really heavy night drinking, and having the shakes in the morning, it will help you still produce good quality welds? if so im sure there are a few of us here that could do with one.

Thanks for the kind words....

Yeah the Saprom range does compensate for changes in Arc Length, its got Job store for saving your favourite/most used parameters, comes with a torch with a remote in the handle for changing jobs/parameters without having to go back to the machine and lots of other neat features. By far our biggest selling machines, we average about 10-12 per month.

I got some more product info on our other lines like Rotators etc, when I think about it next I'll drop you some other stuff in the post.....its always nice to be able to see what sort of technology is available nowadays.

Nice welders (understatement) any way of finding the prices though, on any of the smaller migs and tigs. Also are all your tig machines Inverter based ? I saw a lovely British made Tig at migtigarc that says it was

MTA AC/DC 171 Tig Welder
Professional quality British built Tig welder constructed using conventional transformer and thyristor technology. This machine is not inverter based which makes it more serviceable and gives it a very long life. Ideal for welding aluminum, stainless steel and ,mild steel etc.

Which seems to be a good idea, er I think anyway. What would a non inverter lose, against a modern designed inverter Apart from a bit of weight ?

I only know of one true manufacturer who is making in the UK, as far as I know the other comanies who claim this import the kit from China, Eastern block or where ever and then fit a couple of additional parts or make some small modifications, when they have done this they can claim that its made in the UK.

Anyway, that wasn't your question was it!

There would be quite a significant difference in the weight on Inverter v Transformer, also Energy efficiency, Current draw from the mains.

Our tig inverters are not just inverters, they are digitally (software) controlled inverters, which means that they are always upgradeable. (For instance if we change the ignition chacteristics on AC to improve it, we could give you that software in your machine to make it "as new" again)

Also because of the digital control on some of our tig inverters we can have Job store facilty and M.A.C.S (Modulated AC Arc), this is a special Hybrid arc which is Like traditional AC welding with a DC componant superimposed onto it. This makes the Arc incredibly stable at low amps, is great for welding thin section Aluminium and also welding joints with a high level of difference (Eg, 8mm to 1mm Plate).

These are just some of the benefits which are possible with digital inverter technology.

Would you buy a black and white Cathode ray tube TV now? They are no doubt easier to fix than a Plasma or LCD, but times have changed!

Those MTA ones are built by the same UK company that builds the Portamig and RoTec transformer machines, they're assembled in York using, I believe 'quality British components where possible'.

My 'book of welding' turned up yesterday, Matt only posted it Friday. Some interesting reading and some lovely looking machines . The pic of the pulsed mig alu weld is incredible, looks just like a nice tig weld!

Go for an S3 Instead!

I'll do some welding samples next week with a S3 on Twinpulse, Alu and CrNi and post some photo's so you can see what its really like.
