Odd-shape is a ducks head.I had to use one of those tytre machines to change landrover tyres when I was 16/17. As above had a long lever with aball on one end and an odd-shaped forging the other for taking tyres off and re-fitting them. It was hard work.
That one also had an air ram on the side with a foot on it for popping the beads.
I have used a coats center post many times, and the beak breaker is powerfull, but not for aluminum rims.I have a similar type bead breaker, its got a bit more scope and a lot grunt than the one on my tyre machine.

I bought an old May Tire-A-Matic, and the bead breaker is a steel wheel that comes down with an air cylinder
and the rim spins by motor.
Just did some aluminum rims, stuck pretty bad, no problem, just light touch on the air valve control, and let the rim
go round & round, while the steel wheel slowly does it's job.
Yes.Sounds a bit like the truck tyre machine Fred. this beast rotates the wheel and another wheel shoves the tyre straight off the rim.
