When you see the pump body depart from its fixing it kind of gives you an acidic taste in ones gob, like spilling a full pint,that sort of thing only a lot worse.

Took the overload stop to bits tonight and as expected they are knackered:

I could mess around and braze them up and fettle them but probably easier to make new ones so I've ordered some brass.

I did first have a look for new replacement items but they ain't cheep so ile stand in front of the mill for an hour or two and save myself about £40.

Got a bit done today, made the new overload stop bits:

I fitted the new stop and synchronised the pumps, thort I would have a swing on the handle not expecting much difference and what do you know......










It fired up first crack of the whip and ran on two cylinders as well as you could expect a knakerd old dumper to run.

now that the engine is some ware near, I need to start looking at the brakes.

They are of a fully enclosed arrangement in the front axle, pressing the peddle there is no resistance other than the return Spring. I cracked each bleed nipple and get free flowing fluid from each side and you can hear some movement in either side of the axle. Any one worked on these before?

I never thort at the time be probably should have clamped the flexi pipe to rule out the master cylinder.

Bit of an update, the dumper now seems to start first time every time. New throttle cable fitted and working, may need some small adjustments but happy at present.

Had a bit drive arround and seems ok apart from jumping out of 3rd/4th anyone got any thorts on this one?

Need to set the brakes up properly as one wheel lockes in reverse but waiting for a new wheel brace for this as I haven't got a 3/4w one and they are too tight to try with a slightly bigger metric socket.

Quite happy with progress but still lots to do.

I know nothing about the boxes in these but as a general rule when a box jumps out of gear it's worth checking the detent balls and springs which work on the selector rods are working properly.

Hopefully it's something simple like this, and can be accessed without pulling the box to bits.

is it a 40 or 80 m seriel gearbox wit h3 forward 1 reverse ? you can get all the parts of fleabey I have 2 sitting here with same issue

I'm not sure witch one it is, it's a 4 speed forward/reverse shuttle box.

ah ok this is not the same as mine mines is 3 forward reverse manual

Done a little more today, I have re-sealed the stearing ram. Unfortunately I forgot to take any pics because rather ironically I was concentrating on the order of all the bits and forgot to take any.

Also after jet washing most of the crud off during the week, I found a snapped engine mounting bolt so I have replaced that.

I have located an oil leak on the engine:

Arround the base of the cylinder barrel, which is rather curious because there is no gasket bettwen the barrel and block, it may tighten up but the nuts aren't the easiest to get in to.

Would anyone know ware I would expect to find the chassis number on the dumper?

Never found one on mine, but spares suppliers can work from serial numbers on the plates on both axles, gear box, drop gear box, and engine.

Just a little update, while is been a nice warm day I decided to change the fuel filter holding the heat would getting it bled off and started again.

So remove the filter bowl and remove the old filter and it wasn't quite what I was expecting:

Very unusual looking filter , that will probably explain the fuel problems I was having. The greed of some people amazes me.

Also while I was in there I checked the cylinder barrel nuts and they where not very tigh so I've give these a nip with the hope of stoping the oil leak.

Just finished jet washing it again to clean the oil from the cylinder barrel leak and the diesel that went everyware and some more crud off its starting to get there now.

Oil change next, what oil would people recommend I use in the engine / gearbox / axles?

The barrel nuts and some of the head nuts are really awkward, I cant be sure but I think the bump clearance is adjusted from beneath the barrels on the petters, and the lister between the barrel and head, I had to use Oxy Acetylene on every head nut on mine.
