tight abs hub nut

I need to make a new tool to fit this hub nut socket as a 1/2 inch breaker bar is not man enough.

I was thinking about putting a hole in some thick/wide bar and welding it over the end of the socket, then narrowing the bar down so I could then fit and extension pipe over the end.

Any other low cost suggestions.

No, its a normal thread, and heating it with oxy till it was red also didn't work.

But they are normally 3/4" or 1" drive and the 1/2" reducer would still be the weakest link.
Have you warmed it, could it have a high strength thread lock on, that stuff will soften with the heat form a hot air gun.

Dunk the whole thing in a bucket of diesel or ATF/acetone mix overnight and try again?

Weld a thick flat plate on it with a hole in the middle like a tee and use two FBH's on either side and make like a thrashing spanner and hold it in place with a large g cramp, I did that a few weeks ago on a merc truck front hub nut and that was FT, as we didnt have a 60mm socket handy so I made my own out of piece of flat bar folded round a 60mm hex pipe fitting . then welded to a 1/2 flat plate it worked atreat until I could get a 60mm socket. when I rechecked the tightness I needed a 5ft 3/4 bar to slacken it !!

looking at that it looks to me like the thread is prob on the other side of the bearing ie into the hub flange ?
so it would be the hub flange that requires the heat .

I'd try a better breaker bar, Facom or something like that

batter it with a hammer first, the impact shock might free it off

then heat the hell out of it

then try the socket with better breaker bar


or I'd cut through it and buy a new one

I already did one side but I want to save the abs ring on the other side as they are £25 a pop. As I said in the first post, I am looking for low cost solutions.

Dremeled a slot on each side and hammered in a chisel.

If it was that hot and still that tight I would still do the welding bit onto a plate, no matter how good the breaker bar is they still break!! and then you can still use it with a torque wrench to tighten
Imagine the elora thrashing spanner but with two legs, one on either side leaving the 1,2 square hole in the middle for tightening, two well timed fb hammers and you will shift it!

It laughed in the face of my impact gun! The breaker bar probably broke at say 50kg pull at 2m ~1000Nm

Sheared one and bent the other.

Either take it to the garage to remove or like you did with the other, cut it off and suffer the £25.
I had a similar problem with the bush on the front wishbone on my Saab, in the end, after hours of frustration and injuries I just ended up bending the stub mount and relegating the part to scrap......over £100 for that!

You could always open up the socket to 3/4" or !" square and use a bigger breaker bar, !/2" square was far too small for that socket in the first place.

When I'm working on my cars, I always seem to end up with problems like this that take an inordinate amount of effort to sort out, funny how that never happens on wheeler dealers, a quick squirt of WD40 fixes everything for Ed.

Would be a better show if they covered some real life problems that I come across.
