Omg it’s mild steel,reason mug not working is not penetrating,if it’s a bucket off digger it’s goin to need prepping,eg groove or bevel,you Dnt need to ore heat or anything if using a good mild steel rod,hard rod rod,the heat of the build up if runs is adequate and self sufficient

Omg cast steel is steel,metal mild steel,welding procedure is basic,reason your having problems is called over engineering,it dsnt need anything special at all,,,,it’s not cast iron

I thought I would give an update on my project
Didn't go as well as I had hoped, looked to go great in the start but that everything cracked up, so now I'm thinking about giving up on this one.

You bought a stamos
I have one not your same model but a stick only welder I'm happy with it

Well I was sure that it was cast steel since the guys producing it said it was, but it could be the gut I asked had no clue and just said yes...
Anyways not sure what to do now...

The 3 in 1 stamos works great, some trouble with the feed button inside the cabinet it sticks sometimes but else it's working great

It just needs to get new ground clamp and new electrode holder
I have a stick only machine and I had to replace those things
About the switch I think it's probably being miss assembled ,so maybe it just needs to be assembled better

every time ive welded simalar things.

in the workshop its been grind a v in it, heat it up with gas torch to pritty damb hot water forms a ball on it as it vaporises , and as soon as it's tacked pile the weld in with the mig even if it looks to hot just keep going fill it all up with a few run as possible one after another, might not be the right way but it seems to work, out in field is 312 ss rods or any ss rods failing that any low-h, that said ive welded cast steel bearing houseings back together on concrete crushers with oil soaked 6013's found sat in a half a bucket of water that wasent fun

Wouldn’t you expect to get a hardened surface with mig process,found out,when customers brought it to me after they’d “had a go”.
