Given the number of urban beekeepers nowadays I'd think there would be a ready market for that. Don't know what price though.

I know my brother in law hummed and hahed over buying one, and he has a fair number of beehives, so I doubt they're cheap - probably more than another Parvalux.

Core yes Dave Im buzzin just come off the Thorne website new today Price: £927.50 without the stand, gonna have to stick it on the auction site, like you say bit more than another Parvalux. I think I will have a look inside the speed controller, just to see how they are wired and see if I could get something like it for my cutter grinder.

I've been thinking about getting a small bench top blasting cabinet for cleaning up bike parts and today found one in the skip at college along with a wheeled cabinet it sits on
Needs a bit of work like new gauntlets and a seal for the top, but for free I can't complain. Strangely it came out the art department not engineering.

I bought them from a seller called "tools n tools". They market them as jewellery tools but do lots of different sizes.

I've saved a motor for mine, DC max 5000 rpm 700w 200v volt as fitted to the Chinese mini mills, and I have a KBIC controller that needs diagnosis and repair and a tacho to watch over it. I'll add a PC fan to cool it at low revs so it doesn't let its magic smoke out!

A KB KBIC240 DC controller (mains to motor) is good, but not that cheap, there are also Chinese copies (the real KB are mostly surface-mount, the Chinese old-school leaded components - so easer to fix if/when they go wrong), they'll give you presets for max current limit, min / max speed, acceleration and IR compensation (stabilises speed), needs a single external potentiometer for setting speed and a "HP resistor" that plugs into the board to match the motor (e,g, a 2HP for that motor). There are also "cheap" all-in-one motor controllers on EvilBay...

Alternative is a fairy chunky bridge rectifier (e.g. 10A, 400v) fed from a thyristor/PWM controller capable of 6 amps or more, doesn't get the clever features you'd get with the KB or clone, though and there's the risk you could over-volt it.

Something like this would do it pretty well if you can wait a while:
