Richie before you start it ….lube the cylinder with the spark plug out ..give it several pull overs and squirt a bit of WD 40 in between pulls. Done so it lubes the piston rings & the cylinder wall and piston skirt . Other wise if it's too dry .....the rings might break or pick up metal from the walls & knacker the machine .

PS Your'e a jammy git finding such a score . They are brilliant machines if looked after .

I've got it running. There's a thread in the projects section with a little video. It always turned over very smoothly by hand before I had it under power. I got it running properly since the video with fuel in the tank.

When I did my city and guilds in Ag Engineering, we were the first year that was allowed calculators in the exam. The format was eight half hour questions of which you could pick five. We practiced on old exam papers and could do all eight questions in half an hour. We thought this was brilliant until we sat the exam, they just made the questions several times harder, and I was crunching until two minutes from the end. Phew.

For my HNC electrical engineering I was horrified to discover an hour or so before the exams that I'd lost or had my Cassio scientific calculator nicked ( colleges tend to have some nice folks like that ).
So I went to the college shop and purchased a new calculator …. Arragh I couldn't work it for toffee . I managed to jam it up on anything but simple multiplications. Sat and worked things out long hand instead & didn't do as good as I'd hoped as I didn't finish the first paper .

So a rule for life was developed by me :- never change your calculator to a snazzier one if you are about to do important exams , treat your current calculator like a bar of gold .

Used to do this for a laugh when we were kids (many moons ago) we had a a line of 4 or 5 of us the strange thing was only the the one touching the fence and the last one in the line got the shock.

My evil brother who became a copper , bet me I could not pee over the single strand of wire running round the cattle field . As a result though I'm led to believe Mum & Dad were married before he was born ..... I do have my doubts .

cant think of a better place to put this and it doesnt rate its own project thread, so ill put this here...


spent the day intermittently fiddling with the tyre machine.
first job was to fix the auto oiler and get rid of (most of) the air leaks. ended up totally re plumbing the air system.

then i practiced taking tyres off. not the hardest thing to learn, but i did have to watch a google vid to get my head round it....

i also discovered putting tyres back on is easy
i then sorted out the air switch that raises and lowers the assist arms. and found that doesn't half make life easier!
i took the valve apart and found the lower and raise arm had a fitting that was almost all the way undone. screwed it back together which effectively shortened the arm and it works fine.
i also made and fitted a side panel to the machine to close off the gaping hole in the side.

i used a air hammer to remove the sliding roller that you use to hold the tyre off the bead and cleaned all the rust off it so now it slides nicely.

i was then going to drill a hole in the end to put a bolt down with a large washer to prevent it travelling past its endpoint but although i have a very cool fully adjustable radial pillar drill,

i only had a cheap chinese vice dad bought for xmas last year, and, well... they don't last long it seems.

also mocked up a power supply for the balancer and found that there appears to be nothing wrong with it. i do need a users manual for it though...

just have to mount that neatly now and wire it properly and that will be good to go too.
oh, and on a only slightly related subject. ...
i went to lend my pressure washer to dad last week, so i dragged it out of the shed, chucked it in the car and took it over. started it up and ....

only louder.
not fixing that in a hurry.
now as it happens they have a identical (ish) pressure washer that they've never got round to fixing, so i nicked the carb off mine and the pressure hose lance etc and swapped it over. so now my parents have a pressure washer, but i don't. which is a shame, as id REALLY like to clean the tyre machine off....

This came up cheap , it's originally from a well know DIY store compound, heavy duty security fencing with posts, 2 large gates and smaller, they sold it off when closing down and its been sat unused since. Its also galved and powder coated so should outlast me

Social distancing observed which meant it was a complete PITA to load on the trailer by myself

I've been a very naughty boy, but I'm worth it

Its an 18v router, no battery, but comes with a trim and plunge bases, fences etc.

The body itself is quite small

I've used it already for a small job however I need to wait for some guide bushes and cutters for the Leigh dovetail jig to be delivered before it gets a lot more use. The intention is to use my Dewalt corded for the tails, and the Milwaukee for the pins, that way I don't have to keep swapping cutters. I have depth jig to help set the cutter depth but they always differ slightly when changing cutters meaning either a tight or sloppy dovetail and much messing about. This way once set up correctly I can breeze through all 40+ dovetailed drawers and trays for the kitchen without fiddling about.

This is my second Milwaukee 18v Fuel router. The other one is sat in a work colleague's desk in Chicago waiting for the next time somebody comes over to the UK. That may be a while so will probably sell that to another US work colleague.

In 1964 my brother spent a two months wages £76 IIRC on getting one of the new fangled Sinclair six digit red LED calculators that took four or six AAA batteries and needed a new set a couple of hours late . Even the one shown above looks a long way off in the future , what sort of price was if ( if you can remember ) ? I was learning how to use a slide rule & still have one with the instruction & plastic storage case .

I am unsure but i bet it could have been a weeks wages as i remember him saying he was happy i was good at maths but i cost more to put through education than my 3 sisters all put together.

a little bull nosed plane.
got it in a waterlogged box of "bits" (old bolts, screws and car bits) from MIL's husband about 20 yrs ago. - where it looked like a solid lump of rust.

threw it in the citric acid tank a couple of years ago, and just found it when i've come to clean out the crud from the bottom.

quick polish with the proxxon, and it turns out its actually brass, or bronze!
I'm guessing bronze? as the acid would have leeched out the zinc, leaving it more copper-y?
