Today I "re-acquired" some gear after digging through my storage unit. With other members recently talking about a mutual hobby, I thought I'd better check on some equipment that I have not used in awhile. Tanks need a Hydro test as its been longer than I thought since my last dive. Too hot to sort through things today, but its fun to open cases with things you've forgot about; Everything has been kept in a cool dry building, so hopefully nothing has deteriorated. Wish me luck.

You and @Cobbler should get together at some stage. With your tanks and his Poseidon "DV", and doubtless one of you has a "stab jacket" , I reckon the Historical Diving Society would welcome you with open arms .

And if you ever get bored, google "David Tye, Oban". He was a trials rider from Matlock who my Dad used to race against in the early 50's, and he moved to Oban where he set up Oban Divers camp site and did salvage diving and scallop diving. He got a bend while diving in 1970 which left him paralysed from the waist down and permanently in a wheelchair, but remained very philosophical about it. A fascinating character, I had the great privilege of meeting him quite a few times, and there's plenty of hair raising tales of his exploits salvaging the wrecks around Oban in the 50's and 60's wearing a vulcanized rubber drysuit that had no means of equalizing , and no tank contents gauge, so when it got hard to breathe, you only had a few minutes of air left and it was time to head north...

I did acquire this a few weeks ago but used it for the first time a few hours ago - and it's still on as it circulates cooler air through the house from the door on the shaded side! It's a fan unit from a server rack that @indy4x was selling off here last month - cheers!

Now I'm feeling old.

I had pre-stabe jacket equipment, a set of U.S.Divers steel twin 60's with double hose regulator and a manually inflated bib. I sold the twins to the owner of Depth Perseptions dive shop in San Luis Obispo, California. I might still have the bib (?), will find out tonight, as my Wife wants to open the packages when she gets back from shopping. I told her there are no shoes in them so it won't be like Christmas.

4string, ..... nothing as modern as a stab jacket, an ABLJ please. I had an old military twin set for a while, the valves were like bath taps, it was designed to be used in poor vis, upside down with no contents gauge. Breath off One tank til empty, open the other & equalise between the two & close, breath until empty, then use the remaining air in the second as reserve to surface. I never used it that way, I turned them the right way up as normal.
I also had a 60 with a J valve reserve, I tended to leave it open & use the gauge. My Poseidon Cyclon DV was the one of the best in its time, could be used on 300 bar, not many could in those days. There were a few “TAD”s around in the early days, ever come across them?

And the Poseidon is still a legend, especially amongst the seriously cold water divers. Can't think of another second stage, sorry, "demand valve", , that works either way because it has a side exhaust.

4 string .....No it wasn’t a Frenzy, similar though. You are right, the Cyclon doesn’t tend to freeze as it’s a diaphragm first stage, no piston to freeze in the bore. You could also get a rubber cap that fitted over the first stage that you could fill with alcohol if you are really going cold. They used them in the Antarctic, as they were trouble free on difficult dives. As an aside, Wild life photographer Doug Allen used to come along to our pool sessions to test his camera kit before going off to Antarctica.
