Hydraulic will be a good grade but the chrome can be a pain, get the tool under it and it will turn well. Next time I bandsaw I will go around with a 1mm grinding disc just to mark the cut and get through the chrome.
I bought 50kg+ of it 2 years ago but as yet I cant be arsed to chop it into usable lengths or swap the chuck over.

You have to turn that stuff slow until you get through the chrome...

Make sure you take a decent cut to get under the chrome

What do you think they came out of? there old one was imperial and there new one is metric and the bottom dies dont fit the metric locating slots, hence why they were getting rid.

Just interested in their setup. Seems quite advanced for a quarry. Most seem to like bodging stuff and that’s about it.

Mainly chutes, covers and guards as well as general repairs using sheet steel. Sometimes they make steel signs in emergencies.

A guy I know that runs his own mobile welding service did some work for one of the local quarries, this was about ten years ago and he still hasn't managed to escape. Between all the hard facing, skip and conveyor repairs he is flat out, as you can imagine its an absolute hithole

I've worked in them on and off and no more. Everything gets ruined, you get covered in dust, truck gets full of dust, when it rains the dust becomes slime.

The owners are all cut from the same cloth and want it all bodged for cheap as possible with minimum down time.

The issue here wasn't that the operators wanted it on the cheep. But the attitude of the workers to the equipment.

JCB, Volvo and Mitubusrhie to name 3 had workshops doing works from small to repairs to full rebuilds.

I was there weekly dropping extinguishers off, fixing CCTV re-cabling fire alarms.

The Maintenance manger gets annoyed at the abuse. Not the wear and tear in a tough work area.

Classic example, loader was seen pushing a dumper truck out of the way, by pushing on the tail gate.

The gear has a fixed down time for repairs, but that is accounted for. But it cost ££££ when it comes to abuse.

One I was involved in was when they wanted to move a cabin. So withy out thinking, the craned it out of the way.

Seen that a lot. Just savages. No excuse for it to be honest.

I did a great line in repairing abused buckets but enough was enough in the end.

Yes, I see it a lot.

I used to have to go with 50 to 100 extinguishers to the site, to replace the ones tat have:
Let off, no one knows by who.
Disappeared, by no cctv footage. Due to the camera being broken or looking at the wrong place.
Damaged.

Or on the fire systems, detectors removed so a night shift can have a smoke break in the warm.
