These items were all destined for the rubbish heap until I got my hands on them two days ago. The owner - a mechanical engineer - had died and they were being dumped by two of his adult offspring as part of their house clearance. I'm really surprised at them for disposing of such items as surely they would be a nice memento of their late father.
The small adjustable set square has "Made In England" written on it, but there's no manufacturer's name to say who made it.
The compass set is Swiss made and I'll be giving that to my niece as she has recently started secondary school and really enjoys her technical drawing classes. I've actually been on the lookout for something similar for her birthday which is coming up shortly. It even has a small screwdriver (bottom right) to keep everything nice and tight. On the right-hand side of the case there is a small steel shaft which locks the lid in place by sliding inwards flush with the side.
The wooden slide rule is of American origin and I'm going to keep it for myself

After first being offered this nearly two years ago, I finally made it all come together. Armed with a letter from the government department involved, stating its removal was an essential job that needed to be carried out whilst the lockdown was still in force, a couple of us went up and removed it. Colchester Mastiff 1400 that was bought new and used On one project, building all the running gear,overhead shafts etc for the Bradford Industrial museum. It’s sat in their heated basement, mothballed and covered in grease for the last 19 years, untouched. Due to the museum loosing its storage facility due to the council selling the land to a developer, the basement tool room needed to be cleared so they could use the space for storage instead.
After getting stupid quotes for its removal, they contacted me. Went up and looked at it about two year ago. Yes I could get everything out the basement. “ Ok. How much would it cost?” WTF..... “ Lets get this straight. You want to give me a nearly new 3m between centres lathe, with all the trimmings, faceplates, steadies,4 jaw Chuck,taper turning attachment, some of which are still in the original storage wax, and you want to know what I will charge you?”
A challenge to get out. It’s 4,6m long...up an incline in a narrow corridor with a 90 turn at the top thrown in for good measure. That then gets you into a pit which is 15m away from the door which is too narrow to get the truck in. All good sport....And it’s back in my workshop now
