Not today, but during my last trip up to Yorkshire I found this in the garage, rusted and seized up. After a bit of elbow grease and a day in citric acid I have.

Looking up the part number gives me ground crew adjustable spanner so that would probably have come home from National Service.

A wee Verdict lever-action DTI... scaled in 0.0005" divisions. Quick polish of the glasses with some Autosol, movement is free enough but under a magnifier the chrome-plating is cracked on the tip, not that it would matter much for the junk I turn out A tenner, posted... best hope 'C' Shift don't miss it

Bagged this off the local Facebook page for the grand sum of.... Nowt!

Needs some tlc, but it's the same as my other 2, one has 2 grinding wheels (10 or 12" iirc) and the other has one grinding wheel (8"?) and a polishing mop, but I'm going to swap the mop for some 10" or 12"wire wheels. Once they're all working and tidied up I can get rid of the smaller single phase ones.

Was dumping some stuff at my recycling centre last week & luckily the staff member was inside eating his lunch so it gave me a chance to poke around. Came home with a few things.

A large snail air mover / carpet dryer. Spent a few hours sorting out some wiring butchery carried out by someone trying to bypass a broken switch. Got it working on both speeds, just need to order new switches for it.
A Henry working perfectly & by the look of the filter has done very little as it was very clean. No tool kit but they are only buttons to buy. Likely keep this one for cleaning the van.

Draper expert electric planer, as new in its original box & working perfectly!

Dewalt SDS drill, break in windings so stripped for parts. Has a good trigger switch & a 4m rubber flex plus 12 good sds drill bits.

Also got 5l of green oxide paint, 5l of white gloss & 2.5l of white undercoat.

It's crazy what people throw out!

Some measuring bits including a nice verdict DTI & 3 nice steel rules. I've been starting to use rules more lately, including carrying a carpenters folding rule so one of these small rules will fit in my top pocket nicely!

I can not make it out, what the graduations on that top 6" rule are.

Wanted one for years (Well, I don't have the space for an optical comparator ). It's a Mitutoyo, might get its own thread if I find anything interesting inside. The optics are absolutely filthy, hopefully just dust and oil.

Two hundred quid, not the bargain of the century (That's coming tomorrow, you'll see ) but not bad. There's loads on American ebay over a thousand dollars.

The stage seems to be in pretty good condition, looks/feels like balls in vee ways. I'll get it all apart for an inspection and clean over the next few days. Back at uni now so limited tools, we'll see how far I get.

If you haven't dealt with optics before ? Don't touch or rub the lenses with anything. " Rinse them with isopropyl alcohol ", 90% is best if you have access to it. As a last resort if there is something which will not rinse off, gently roll a baby bud across the spotty item to see if it will pick it up.

A dust blowing tool is pretty good too. Never rub lenses with tissue either.
Proper lens cloths should be used.

The thing about lens cloths, is that if there is any hard dust particle or foreign matter on the optic, it can scratch into the glass as it is wiped across. Rinsing is the best option on quality optics, especially with telescopic & microscopic types.

Cheers, I've got very limited experience with it, I've had camera lenses and a microscope apart before. I've got 99% IPA, I was going to squirt it on to rinse and let it air dry? Not sure what to do about dust settling on it though, maybe sit it in in tuppaware to dry?
