The listing says the pole mount bolts are seized, its SS so probably galling. It needs a new cable too. It probably won't arrive until the new year, all I need now is a decent wind vane for direction, the Raymarine type from boats look good, and a tipping bucket rain gauge. I'm in no rush so will pick decent ones as the come up for sale second hand, I'm not buying cheap Chinese import tat land fill, its a new year resolution.

5 port managed Ethernet switch and a Mean Well 5v DIN rail PSU

I wanted a DIN rail switch, but they are stupid money. A standard dumb DIN rail switch is about 50 quid, about 3 times the price of a standalone switch. OK, some of the components may be better and they are are ruggedised and sometimes can take redundant power supplies. But if its a DIN rail managed switch they are over £100 and its usually just a software/firmware change so the price uplift over a ruggedised dumb switch is unwarranted.

So 25 quid for the managed standalone switch, and a 3D printed bracket plus a right angle power connector for £2 and that's sorted. The switch is a Zyxel, Taiwanese made in China, Mean Well is the same. Its hard to avoid buying Chinese for tech, but I have had a couple of Zyxel 24 port passively cooled switches for a while and they have performed well and Mean Well haven't let me down yet.

I don't use wall warts for powering raspberry pi, I always use the DIN rail PSU, the 60w PSU can easily power four rpi4 complete with SSDs with enough left over for the 5w needed for the switch.

I would imagine your newly magnetised tools will pick up all the swarf you want as you use them?

Same here, I have a pair of them in a rack in my bedroom, so wanted passive cooling. The PSU failed in one of them a few weeks ago, but I was pleased to find out it was a standard third-party PSU. Found one on Rapid, and it dropped right in

I picked up a 5-port gigabit switch yesterday, from a local "reuse" group. I don't think it's managed, but it'll do for connecting things and it had that magic "free" on it. Very generous of them, I thought, though these things aren't as special as they used to be.

We've had the smaller kit at work for a while, and it's stood up to quite a bit of abuse, so I figured for £20, it saves me a lot of hassle for the odd big hole I need to make.

Filmers in Dartford, Stevensons/Stephensons in Bromley.....bought my first soldering iron (S R Brewster make) there.....Sendz in Southend, Rapid in Farningham.....all gone.

Used to be no end of surplus electronic shops in Tottenham Court Road. Used to buy large bags of mixed resistors and capacitors from them. Probably back in mid 1970's .
