Today I acquired...........

I acquired a look at and test run with an Arboga U2508 milling machine today.

All eight speeds run perfectly (100-2,900rpm - what a range without having to touch a belt).

When measuring the runout at the end of the quill, I first thought I wasn't measuring at all until I swapped the 0.01 for a 0.001 clock, then the pointer shook a little.

Now I'm having a hard time thinking ....

Are Arboga machines (Sweden) widespread or even known among you?

It is really more a Mill/Drill, only for relatively light milling.

I have an Arboga pillar drill, they don't look much but are beautiful machines, I was after one for years and then one came up on eBay and I got it. It arrived in bits, I had paid for it to be put on two pallets lying down, it arrived lying down right enough but that was because it was originally standing on one pallet and the plastic binding had snapped. I emailed the seller (a machine dealer) , sent pics etc and he refunded in full and told me to scrap it, I managed to repair it so I was happy

You made a good bargain in the end ... At least you had enough capital to put into the repair.
(However, I am annoyed by things that have been destroyed due to sloppy cargo securing/packaging, and even more so when people have been harmed in the end.)

Thanks for that reply, "quality kit" feels good - The link: I am amazed again and again at what you can find on his site - and Tony is also very accessible, which is a bit surprising considering what he has all to deal with.

For me it is an Arboga, they are Swedish and I have always considered them a cut above the rest in their class and I have used quite a few different makes that people consider the best. Quite a few variants , one with a XY table seems to be quite common, mine is just the more basic type although...

Yep B .... looking from the direction of travel the inner tail trails .. Here is picture or three of " "Fenners ( marked up belting " off my lathe ( lathe needing a new 240 volt 1/2 h 3300 rpm motor with a 3/4 spindle not a 19 mm spindle as the two year old replacement for the 76 yr old original one one died a sudden fuse blowing death ( bloody Chinese rubbish )

You will need to make one or two adjustments after fitting a new belt , for it beds in . I think Fenner's recommended 1/2" ( 13 mm ) of full top to bottom play using a straight edge on the top edge of the belt .. but that's one hell of a tight belt if the bearings are a bit worn .
Keep the unused links safe in a heat sealed up heavy poly bag for future events .

Just had a thought ...

Get a Sharpie permanent marker and once the belting is fitted correctly mark the direction of run on every fifth link or so just incase you need to remove it in a couple of years as it's so easy to put it back on the wrong way round

Your machine looks a bit like an EM825, but also a bit different - rumors are there was a very solid transitional version on the way to the U2508, at least with the gear levers on the right.

Otherwise, the gearbox seems to be the same as in the U2508!

Today, when shifting gears at a standstill, I noticed that the upper lever engaged in the gear a little more unwillingly.
It was easier to engage just before coming to a standstill or while turning the spindle by hand.

Could the oil level in the gearbox head play a role?

How is it with your machine?

Occasionally the teeth don't mesh when changing gear so you have to rotate the spindle slightly.

My dad was on this lovely ship as a Navy sparky up to about 1958.
I was born early sixties and he was out of the service by then.

The name MikeBB just refers to my first gun
It fired plastic "bbs" . It was a cheap all plastic pistol.

Here's a similar one, but metal, that I acquired lately.
It was disposed of at our local recycling centre.

Wool ! I cant even knit . Wife's charity knitting malarkey, teeny socks and jackets for the premature baby ward.

Do the caps push down on the Schrader valves to get to the pressure?
Is the energy for the caps to be able to transmit data generated by movement, centrifugal forces or else?

They screw on instead of valve caps and push the valve.
I think they transmit constantly, not really had much of a mess with them as I only got them last night so fitted and paired to the app and then the pic above was when I came home in the van this evening and parked outside the garage.

A cheap lathe. Free! Flood damaged, was due to go to the tip. The motor was seized but ran ok once I got it going. I cleaned all the surfaces and gave it to my friends. This machine costs $540 new, amazingly I got my Harrison Graduate for $900 and $50 for a bucket full of chisels.

A Toshiba all in one pc with touch screen running windows 7 works perfect and i have already upgraded the memory and ordered an SSD, the other item was an RC car with a box full of wheels and tyres complete with the 27meg AM controller im going to upgrade the batteries and charger to try it out.
