Today I acquired...........

I got a copy of Machine Tools by the Gresham Publishing company from 1911, its a 2 Volume book with over 350 pages that are approx 16" x 12" and shows machine tools that could be found in modern machine shops from the period.

and there are some fold out picture of machine tools including :-

a radial drill

a lathe

a turret lathe

and a double headed shaper

and the rest of the pages are like this

off ebay £6.99 plus postage.......the they were sold as being water damaged, but its only one of the overs that are. and think rather than sitting on a shelf at my house collecting dust they would be better off being appreciated in the library of the musuem that I volunteer at...... easy come easy go as they say

I have those, they are excellent books. They also made a volume of heat engines. Well worth seeking out.

Not sure what hyper means in this context but it was in a bucket of very rusty tools and has no rust on it. Why is it so shiny?

A nice solid EPCO engine hoist. UK made in Leeds at a time when things were made properly from good materials. Hopefully being collected from Colchester on Monday.

One of my neighbours called round this morning to tell me he’s having a workshop clearout as he’s getting on a bit, and his children don’t want anything, but did I want any of it?

I now have an anvil and stand, a dozen hammers, some homemade spanners (for wagon wheels) and some tongs, together with about 200kg of assorted steel. There’s also a very large blacksmiths leg vice I’m going back for, 100 euros the lot.
