Interesting. I've just sharpened my chisels with a belt sander/finger sander and got a nice sharp edge. Is it easy to get it ground straight with your machine?

Had it recently. Legs aching really bad, freezing cold and shivering violently, sometimes temperature up and down, coughing. I was positive for almost 2 weeks.

seriously though hope you recover quickly.
Just got it today, so it is just first impressions. It sharpens tools better than I can but that's not saying much really. I've done a load of chisels and a plane blade so far.
It does a good job of sharpening. Keeping the tool square and getting a straight grind is more of an issue to be honest. I spent time today either using an engineer's square or lining up the tool against the side of the wheel to get a straight grind but it usually took a bit of adjustment and a few attempts to get it like the photo. More experimentation required.

You have ground a grinding angle on. That should bbe 35deg.
Now you need a cutting angle on, about 25deg.
Then you will be away.

The chipper needs to be dressed so it perfectly conforms to the blade, and then set as in the photo with just enough of the blade exposed to give a fine shaving.

It has a big 250mm wheel. It's a lot more plastic than I was expecting to be honest. I was a bit shocked when I pulled the main body of the machine out of the box with one hand quite easily.
The Tormek version is nearly 700 quid so the buy once, cry once option was out of the question for sharpening 30 quids worth of old tools. This was on offer for £160. It does a job, but it's not a tool I'll be passing on to future generations I reckon. I might do a review once I've had it a while and learned how to use it properly. Variable speed is a nice feature though.

Got an acquired item and an item found after a while .The Rivnut gun was in a charity shop ,The big piston is an unknown one converted to an ashtray and the smaller one is a Honda SS50 machined in the style of the ashtray when I was at school

The guy who collects all my waste oil uses it to heat a shed full of quail, he keeps them for the eggs which he sells. He told me the shed has to be kept hot all year round for the quail, apparently they're very sensitive to cold weather.

I remembered to check the packet, mine says up to 1.625mm mild steel, which I think is roughly 16swg.
