A bit of follow-up reporting from a vice presentation:

HERE I had presented (the black one) a nice little rotating vice a while ago, the origin of which could not be elucidated.

Shortly afterwards @The_Yellow_Ardvark had found an identical model and presented it HERE and HERE, I had then shown mine HERE after rust removal.

After that, nothing more happened for quite a while ... until last week ... and now this was snowing in:

Someone else was actually selling one of these ... and in the original box:

Since I am sure that no foreign manufacturer has brought out a vice including packaging in Polish only for the Polish market, it should probably be Polish vices that remained unmarked for the international market, but were put up accordingly for the domestic market.

And we know that the Poles know how to make vises and other mechanical tools, devices and machines.

And then another package from much further east - not there, even further! - for which I had to wait a while.

I had been flirting with such a set for a long time, but could not really justify the investment - now that I have started experimenting with inductive steel heating, such a thing is of course essential, indispensable, vital, obligatory, unavoidable, ...

... and it's so beautifully colourful too ...

today I acquired

a new Mac tools 13" flex head ratchet in 3/8's back in october the selector lever on my old XRP9 ( 12 yrs plus old to me ) snapped off so asked a few mates in the trade to ask the mac man if the service kits were availible but with no success so I contacted Mac who said no parts for that since 2017 but send it in as warranty and we'll look at . So not holding me breath of it went free post the last week in october .

second week in dec get a call from the warranty dept ,yep it's old and broken we'll send you a new . so I tell the nice man I've already replaced the 9" if I pay the difference could I get the 13" flex .
to which he replied that's what you sent in isn't it , just say yes ! ,so I did it'll be after christmas though he says

so from ups today it arrived .
they even returned the old one the previous week which is normally destroyed .Said it would have to be engraved WR and they havn't done that either nor was I charged the £10.50 return fee
Mac tools I bought the XRP s/h as well ,I'll try and bodge the lever somehow as other than it still works well .

well today I acquired two more boxes from Mac Tools

one full of pillow pack and and paperwork for a relacement ratchet

Had a pack of 8 off 220 v 30 watt IP 65 external LED floodlights arrive this afternoon , finally used the last 20 watt one from a pack of 10 that I purchased 11 years ago at the price of £27 this lot cost me £38 . so not such a big increase in price .
With new improved drivers and LED technology hope they outlast me , cos I plan to still be here in 2054 .

I’m still not sure if this was a good idea or a bit of an albatross.

I was never that impressed with workmates until I used one an old one, and really liked how solid and smoothly it operated. The chap had bought it back in the 70’s and it looked like it had been hardly used.

Since then I’ve been keeping an eye open for one from a similar vintage for myself.
This one definitely has been used and is in a bit of a sorry state, but was only £20 and local.

According to the aficionados of such things, it appears to be an oddball type (just my luck), but luckily mostly intact apart from a couple of feet.

I've got one just the same as that. Bought it from a boot sale second hand in 1991.

The tops a bit shorter one end where some idiot cut it off with a circular saw .

Its got no plastic handles left, no clips to hold the feet out and I had to replace the (metal? )blocks under the top temporarily with some wood 10 years ago.

It been through four house renovations countless other projects and its still going strong, it's due a full restoration on it's (and mine) imminent retirement!

That’s a bit of a hybrid. It’s when they started to cut costs and use steel. The original one of that would have had aluminium extension legs. It’s still a lot better than the modern ones. I still have an original and use that in preference to the modern one I have. The modern one attempts to remove finger tips.

I fished one just like that out of a works scrap bin well over 20 yrs ago - one of the lads brought it in from home to chuck it. ITs been extremely useful over that time. The clips to hold it shut, don't, but everything else works.

That's a great site - funnily enough that's the webpage I was looking at before I bought it, trying to ID it - if you look under the UK workmate 625 section, mine is listed at the bottom as the "WM625 E0?" which I didn't realise until after I'd got it home, from the listing it looked like a E05. He goes on to say "I have identified one additional Type of the WM625 that differs from all of those above..... If you have one of these WM625's with a Type number marking, please contact me."

It made me chuckle when I read it - I don't know why, but for some reason, whatever the machine, I always seem to end up with the oddball, unusual, bitsa or Friday special that nobody has ever come across.

How well I know that:

In Germany, there is a now fairly large chain and catalogue/online shop for motorbikes, accessories and clothing.

They started with one shop in Hamburg and at that time they were also official Guzzi dealers.

This shop consisted of an old cinema, so the staff could see from the counter who was entering the shop from the street ...

At some point it had become customary that when I entered the shop from the counter they immediately shouted "We don't have that" -
- somehow I also have a history of runaway models that supposedly never existed like that ...

I received a large box yesterday. But only got round to fully unpacking it today.
From a good friend.
I knew some of the itrms. But he did add a few extra items.

They are in the order I removed them from the box.

Purly for me to carry out some QA.

A Handgernade bottle.

A few lifting strops. They are not load marked. But will do what I plane for them.

A dead, very dead Aladdin 11 lamp. It will live again. They not only give off a lot of light. But a lot of heat as well..

Another one, the crumbs are what was leaking from the small bags uded to protect the next item.

He had used 15 of the bags.


He also used Fed Ex, you can tell. The glass on this item and the next is not broken.

This nice "Bristol Blue" oil lamp.



The packing bags were used to safeguard the contents from this.

Got me self a new saw...cost a bucket load of money but it's a lovely bit of kit.

Their track plunge saw is still my favourite though!...have to say dust extraction is excellent on all of their stuff.

Does the DCA1820 protect your batteries from going completely flat?

I bought something similar but it just seemed to throttle the battery power the more you used it.

Spare are nearly always available for them or 3D print if you have a printer .
Mine was my dad's WMB , it's nearly 50 yrs old at the time it was purchased the model had just moved on from cast alu framework to all pressed & welded metal ,
About 20 yrsa go I turned up new Alu handle knobs on my lathe and after lots of searching got not only new feet protectors but also 8 bench stops & a two sets of the plastic leglock bows and pins . ( I've still got three bows left from the purchase of eight . )
Made my own replacement top out of 25 mm HDF about 25 years ago , It get a yearly silicon greasing on the vice threaded rods & nuts etc.
