He sent me a large box.

All contents are as I removed them.

That was in the small box, inside the box.

Date and time is wrong, needs a good charge and I am going to up load much usefull stuff.

a walkers crisps display inc baskets , some nice metal soon to be reperpossed and lidl's

£4.99 I'd only one decent set of metric allen keys ( bacho ) so these will probably go in the van and the bacho's in the garage there long and look decent quality even if the holders carp time will tell.

From the local "Shed" charity shop next to the recycling yard. A bag full of new chrome cabinet handles, 21 of them but missing most of the screws. A rusty flexible screw bit holder I didn't notice in the bag, and a small wooden gage marker which still has bits of the old decal on it.

I acquired a trolley jack( minus the handle) today. I couldn’t resist a look in a skip and there it was! No idea if it works and if it doesn’t, the wheels will do my other trolley jack

How come you don't stick with using an OEM oil filter? They were never that much more than aftermarket one.

That lot comes as a service kit (excluding the coolant) I've used the AMC stuff before and it seems ok.
I could only get about 6 liters of the old coolant out, it takes 11 liters apparently but I wasn't about to start ripping all the hoses off trying to extract the rest!
I'll do another half change in a couple of months.
It feels smoother now , looks like the old fuel filter was last changed in 2017

That's why I used green coolant. Only one it won't mix with is red, if I recall correctly. Made it easier to gradually get full, fresh coolant in there. Mine didn't have red in, when I got it.

Finally got home and opened my new toy. It's a bit dusty, but clearly been well looked after. I might have to open it up and try to clean the viewfinder. The lens feels a bit crunchy too but optically looks fine, hopefully just need a bit of a clean.




With no battery in it was very dark through the viewfinder, I was a bit worried it was knackered but a new battery and the mirror moved into position properly, it seems to work. Nice satisfying shutter noise, lightmeter responds to light, won't know if it's accurate until I've shot a roll, but there's no reason to suspect it shouldn't be.

I just have to find something interesting to take pictures of now.

In a box of old tools from the last rescue I found this:

Most modestly labelled "Best Leather Capsule".



Obviously from the manufacturer "Massi".

I had come across this logo before now and then but didn't know anything about them - I wondered if it came from Italy or Portugal ...

.... far from it ...

The materials used and the workmanship look very good.


This company was founded in 1893 as "Metallwaren und Maßfabrik Philipp & Kisten", initially with the main factory in Reichenbach and a branch factory in Eger (Richter & Co, now Cheb, Czech Republic). In 1909, the company merged with the "Metallwaren- und Maßfabrik Friedrich Oschatz" in Werdau and the company "Hob & Börner" in Leipzig. The Werdau factory was then called "Werdauer Meßwerkzeugfabrik GmbH".

From 1937 the company was called "Maßindustrie GmbH". After the war, the factory in Reichenbach was dismantled as a reparation to the Soviet Union. After the foundation of the GDR, the sites in Reichenbach and Werdau became nationally owned as "VEB Maßindustrie".

I only knew this type of tape measure from sports lessons/competitions and then only with a textile tape measure - here in metal, the inverted embossing looks very elaborate, the typeface of the numbers looks quite old, nice detail: the rotating knob of the winding crank.

I'm saving the full 10m of the steel tape to get rust-free again until I can muster enough self-loathing for it ...

1990: Privatisation by the Treuhandanstalt as "Massindustrie GmbH".

And that was that.

Within self-collection distance I found this heavy cast-iron cobbler's anvil with/for interchangeable tools ... now I am not a cobbler and will not start with it, but the foot is the ideal base to have an anvil or vice or whatever standing freely in the best (sitting) position for all kinds of tasks ... I can already think of plenty of applications ...




And this beauty arrived today from an island in front of the coast of Europe:

In almost perfect original condition - certainly without ever having seen a hammer blow or even a workpiece.

And originally quite cheap ... only until it came to me was it somehow expensive ...


Advertising material or real silver and goldsmith anvil???

Don't worry: it still won't see any hammer blows, it will stay on my desk.

You'll like it. The OM series all felt like precision gears moving like silk over one another, compared to Zenits and Prakticas which felt like up-ending a wheelbarrow full of rocks. Oddly though, the Zenits etc carried on working for the most part.
Try to obtain the manual adapter - it's really nice to have.

The anvils were for advertising purpose. I believe. I have one somewhere.
