£60 for the lot. Very happy Apart from the chip on corner of the jaw the vice is in extremely good condition.

Nice vice. Although its a pain when someone has repainted a vice, it usually helps preserve them a little. Will it be going back to red?

At the moment, no. However that's not to say that when I eventually get a decent workshop it won't happen. I do like things to look original. Just pleased finally to own one.

Trying to upload the pic of my die stocks I got today but PB is sending me on an infinite loop of logins when I hit the upload button, I'll try later. It's a big old set of Stronghold ones in a wooden box but the taps have gone for a walk... The dies are 3/4, 5/8, 1/2, 7/16, 5/16, and 1/4, nice big ones, 2.5" dia and a huge 22" long holder. Makes my other set look small in comparison, worth it for $15 I reckoned

Walking round a very large disused industrial site today and found these.
A pair of mahoosive V blocks, I found the first one then spent half an hour looking for the second reasoning there must be a pair!
Almost gave up but then thought what would the @The_Yellow_Ardvark do? So carried on and found it

And a vice
Not sure what to do with the V blocks as they are probably too big for my lathe mill combo machine.

Got for free over the weekend:

Acquired last friday for 95€, the set of west german chisels being worth more than that:

Also a 3-jaw chuck (indeed a factory option meant for woodturning)

I cleaned it in the ultrasonic cleaner and took it apart and oiled & scrubbed everything afterwards, applied grease to the gears, works just fine now.

But I can't stand the 70s kitchen look of this lathe, so everything is being refinished:

PB is working again. Bit grainy but the set in the foreground I got a few months ago for $30, so I was delighted to pick up the bigger set for $15, albeit it's missing the taps but the dies are big and capable. Kicking myself for selling a smaller set last year (not in photo), it was another Stronghold set, then I would have had three.

£7.99 from Aldi, I've paid much more for a single bit so if I get 1 hole I will be happy, probably only use on normal tiles or wall boards

I was thinking of you today, I was in a retired MOD site today. Sadly 99.99% off all fixtures and fixing were tagged and marked for disposal, re use etc. Even some carpets had bean cut down ro be used as rubbing protection.

Well as I walked round collecting extinguishers and stuff I found the missing 0.01%, looking sad and unloved.

I asked, filled out at lot of paper work and was allowed to re move the "Wee Beastie".




Yes, the paint tin was on the list.

She is now at home, oddly I was not allowed the nuts and bolts.

What am I going to do with her?

That is already been arranged, donated to a Combined cadet Force.

Yes, as the site is to be closed and levelled I was collecting them for disposal and making safe. I will drain the Water cans into brown water sewars. The Foam will be washed through the filter cleaner and the water goes down the drain. Waste foam is sent to be disposed of.
Best of all I get to play with the CO2 recycling equipment.

Or the "I operated the wrong lever and let loose a KG of CO2.
The Co2 from the cans gets recycled and used in the Welding and Pub trade, CO2 in extinguishers is as pure as it can be.

Why? That seems like the place where it totally doesn't matter. Is it a reliability issue? I suppose a bit of moisture in there could rust the valve or freeze up and block it in use.
