WhatToday i acquired John's Anvil, he was my father in law & passed away about 4 years ago. We have been meaning to move the thing from their back garden to ours for some years but its a big one & goes about 4 1/2cwt. This weekend our son hired a van to move his girlfriends stuff as she has sold her house & is moving in with us for a while until their new place happens. As they had the van for another day we decided to move the beast. It was bloody heavy & we ended up moving it on rollers & up a scafold board into the van. Unloading it was easier!
This was the anvil from the Benfleet Village forge that was demolished in the late 50's. It is a wrought base with welded on top, very battered & has a bad gouge out of it that has morphed into a crack.
It now sits a quarter of a mile from where it was probably used for centuries. Quite what we do about the damage im not sure but im thinking to leave it.
