I am a hobby user and I presume a BOC cylinder isn't free either. At least for my usage I am very happy with it including price.

Hobby weld or similar would want around £200 deposit alone for that size of cylinder then your fill cost on top. Rip off here in NI.

Thats online price, i pay £40.

It's £8.50 a month rental.

..... a new Track Saw (a Macallister MSPS1200 - so nothing fancy or spendy). That said - I just tested it on some sacrificial packing case ply (set it square using a roofing square & got a lovely straight, clean, square cut & it wasn't a big drama to set up. Happy with that

I also bought these stackable & clip together boxes (one of which is the new case for the above Saw) off FBMP locally. Supposedly these are made by the Co that supplies essentially the same boxes - to Festool & Makita as Power Tool Cases.
Anyway - I picked up 5 of them for £30 - and I have plenty of tools & stuff that can be squirrelled away in them away from the dust & damp.....

What size stone are you looking for?

The originals vary in diameter according to the journal width requirement, but are all 5/8" thick, mounted on a 1/4" steel shank about 8" long.
Made of a fairly coarse white grit. Diameters ( from memory ) are between 1-7/8 " and 3/4 ".

Assuming best case the £8.50 monthly rent doesn't increase for 10 years that's £1020 in rent saved! And by that time I would be trying to get it re filled off the BOC grid so would keep on using it after.

For context this size of Hobyyweld bottle (about half the height of the BOC) costs £360ish here in NI on initial bottle deposit and fill. Very expensive.

On my way back from Chesterfield today I popped into one of my favourite tool sellers as I am needing through tool coolant Collets, like bloody hens teeth OR incredibly expensive, so picked these up for reasonable money:



This set of ER 16 collets were there too, so it would have been rude not to have taken advantage:



Thats the collets at top left, the Solid Carbide bar and two ISCAR indexable cutters were a steal too, well not solid as it too is through coolant. It is all part of my "through coolant tailstock conversion" details coming soon!

Collected another delusion today.
The other day I've spotted a very nice fiat 126 personal 4 , in good conditions ,1500 euros .
After thinking about all the night I've decided to buy it.
Contacted the seller but unfortunately he sold it 5 hours after posting the insertion.
It wasn't for me .

Tonight I've spotted this one

At first look nice enough nothing to worry about, needs little bit of work but
1300 euros don't seem too much.
Contacted the seller, agreed to see it this Saturday morning.
After having a better look at the picture, I've noticed few spray painted spots around the windshield, and rear window in and picture I've not uploaded.
The idea was to buy another one and use it as second car a daily driver, keep it original , and the one is already mine just make it be what was supposed to become when I've bought it .
But those body panels have to be replaced as same as on mine , and to replace them i have to remove all the front panels wich will certainly fall apart in rust and the goal of getting it looses all the advantages because I would find myself with another long term project which I have no time for...
So I'm now sad about.
But I'll probably have the opportunity to drive it and at least discover what feels like to drive on of those.
Cause I've bought mine with a busted engine block do to a broken connecting rod and actually never drove it .

Not needed.
Whatever engine you put in it will make an hudge difference.
It was common to put an A112 1050cc engine in it with 70ish Hp
Many times turbocharged too .
Nowadays the 1.2 litres Fiat is one of the most common swaps , either 8 valves (60 to 75Hp stock) or the 16V with 85Hp .
This because the weight to power ratio of the engine itself which is only 70kg and fits under the hood.
But those can support up to 0.4 bar of boost stock reaching around 120 140Hp .
Also the 900cc Fiat seicento engine (same as on the Panda 141 900cc or the 127 ) is a common swap .
I've seen a video about a guy in UK who put this engine on a 126 Bis and turbocharged it giving 0.4 bar of boost reaching 120ish Hp .
Remembering that the car weighs about 460kg , it's about 250Hp/Ton which is like driving a 400Hp german car like an M3 or an audi S3 .
Very close ,not as top speed but as acceleration .
With an hudge difference , this thing is a coffin , but it will brake much more quickly (using disc brakes)

Forgot about all the bike engine swaps all over 150 Hp and sometimes way over 200Hp , getting close to 500Hp/Ton ratio

Todays shopping trip was fun, so was flat packing it single handed to fit it in / on a medium sized hatchback
It's the first time a farmer has questioned if what I was doing was a good idea

Any advice on how to mount it on a tiled roof that has insulation under the tiles would be welcome
Spec: 200 Lt capacity (= 200kg) + 100kg for the hardware = 300+ kg once it's plumbed in
I guess I need to lift the tiles & insulation, fit battens to support the tiles, cut the insulation to fit around the battens .... etc.
