Today I acquired a bit of space a friend came over and removed the old Wadkin planer that had taken up residence in my shed. (It is up for grabs in the freebie section when approved).
I plan on having the whole shed insulated and boarded and moving my lasers etc into it. Long way to go but progress has been made!

Happy day! I just acquired a couple dozen of Ordnance Survey Maps, and others at the local recycling shed. Many cover places I'd be interested taking a bike tour through.

For those of you who have or have not (yet...) been converted to "Quick Release Grinder Nuts".

I have in the past purchased the Bosch type (thick outer ring and thick heavy nut) that is just to big for a 115mm angle grinder, also the Milwaukie version, thinner but again with a large outside diameter that just doesn't sit in the bottom of the cup of a 115mm flap disc.

Today I received a package from that far eastern supply company , like most peeps on here I have several grinders, 115,125, 180 and the 230mm variety.

In the package were 8 quick release 14mm nuts, which I ordered on the 13th Aug, so 6 days to arrive, the cost for the 8 quick release grinder nuts including del was £11.52, (discounted price the you buy the cheaper it is... )

I tried a couple of them, 1 on my Milwaukee battery grinder and one on my Metabo mains grinder both hold the disc and release easily, plus nicely fit in 115mm cupped discs

Below is a link and a picture the one at the bottom is a Milwaukie nut, on the top the jury is out atm, under test....

You know you can buy the latest and genuine Fixtec ones from ebay for £11?



I use these on my Grinders and they are fantastic quality. I would not use anything else and great value.

Same thing in Milwaukee box is likely £25 ish so buy em on ebay.

I don't think 8 x 14mm Q/R Nuts including delivery for £11.52, is cheaper than £9.99 for one + £0.99 postage...............

I've already experienced these several years ago, and posted about it with a couple of photos. The dam thing froze up and I had to cut it off with another disc grinder to replace the blade.
It was a real pain in the a**se. I wish you and others better luck than I had. See my post post #6919 on this thread, can't recall which topic has the photos ?

I hate them.
I much prefer Bosch SDS click, Metabo MQuick (they work on Metabo only but can be modify and work on others too) and Makita eazynut.
Those fixtech are just a pain I rather use just the simple nut.
They have the tendency to unlock on their own or jam then you don't have enough leverage or surface to grab for releasing it

Which shouldn't get too tight if everything is done correctly anyway.
Quick release nuts are lifesavers on bigger angle grinders.
I've bought an SDS click nut for my WEA24-230 because the original Metabo was too expensive, anyway it's worth any penny , just quarter turn to lock and unlock the wheel and you still have the holes for the spanner if it jams (unlikely will happen)

Agree I really see its utility on bigger angle grinders because sometimes becomes awkward to loosen them up.
We don't have them at work and I don't feel the need apart for the bigger grinders as I said above

The Bosch SDS are great for 7 or 9 inch grinders, but they too bulky for 115/125 mm grinders, and don't sit in the bottom of 115/125 mm cupped discs......

True yes, I edited my post when I realised you bought several for that price

I do like them, very handy. For me I'll stick to genuine Fixtec ones.

I was looking here and there for helicoil sets .
Found interesting things on temu but once in the cart price rised up so I went back to trusty AliExpress searched for Loclifl , discovered an entire world of Loctite knock off .
Now 243 is 30 or 40 euros over here where I live and I'm already using cheaper alternatives.
And ain't going to finish the 50ml bottle too soon (bought 3 or 4 years ago) I've used about half of it considering I've left the thing on a side and lost a bunch of product .
Anyway I wanted to try them out and bought a bunch of them.

Liquid insulation tape just because I think might be useful.

Anyways I've spent less than buying one single bottle of Loctite

Absolute rubbish. Stuff I had was about as useless as a handbrake on a canoe. Strawberry jam would have had better threadlocking properties

I still don't under stand the need for these nuts . . . press locking pin in, rotate until shaft locked, undo disc thus undoing the nut . . . replace disc, replace nut, tweek the disc a touch to tighten, carry on using. Very very rarely do I need to use the pin spanner - probably when I've run the disc right down - and then it's that tight, I'd need to stick something through the quick release nut to get enough leverage anyway.

With the proviso I am a DIY user, or a very limited work user, so not exactly going through dozens of discs a day.
