Beryllium copper, spark resistant, used in explosive atmospheres.
Is that the metal which you have to be wary of the dust/filings created if cut, filed etc.?
It is.
We had a set of non-sparking tools to use in the paint storage/mixing room, we had to wash them in thinners before and after use to prevent any contamination.Beryllium copper, spark resistant, used in explosive atmospheres,
Quite expensive to buy, one like that would set you back about seventy quid

Our paths must have crossed many times. 1970-72 I was doing block release HNC at NELP. I was the only Plessey apprentice in a class of 20 Fordies, two chaps from Nigeria and another lad from Balfour Marine in Ilford, he was made redundant while on the course.Hi Bill, I was indeed. Started there in 1971 when I was doing a thick HND from Barking (NELP). Did the round of various departments over the four years and ended up in CEL. All gone now, just a great big housing estate.

Saw this in the recycling place skip in the village, asked the lady if i could have it and she said no was a little disappointed as the other week i climbed in the skip and moved some stuff for her that someone else had put in the wrong skip.
Went back this morning and she let me have it.
