All done.

3 new springs in the chuck holding the 3 jaws correctly.

The new handle, made from turning down a beech file handle, is the one on the crank handle. The original bolt was used, but I recessed it into the handle. Why, I did not want skin getting pinched.

The paint is Red and black hammerite. So not as good as it used to be.

The bright metal work is protected with rattle can lacquer, simple and keeps the look of age.

Decided to restock my nuts & washers so I spent £30 on this stuff at a local hardware shop.

When you add the prices on the boxes it comes to over £45 plus vat so either I got good discount or the guy can't add up!

A 1930's Trailer as you do.
Mooching on Ebay and found this, nice old gent even gave me a 2" ball hitch.

You need to look beyond the dodgy body work, the chassis etc is very good one seized shackle pin thingy, all correct apart from missing the lights.
It has a proper matching spare, two extra tyres and a good pair of what look to correct steel mud guards, so its doing a few tip runs then its going to a flat bed but I am hoping to make a better quality detachable box for it, Winchboy wants to make a one man tear drop!
So have a root in your shed as I need the correct old lights, one of those reflective letter t's as I believe they didn't use the modern triangle ones then? I need the hinges and metal straps for a removable tail gate too, if any one has any?
I have the manufacturers plate but not much meaningful stuff on it, I want to make it totally original but for safety I will use a modern trailer board on the road.

Looks like a Walther PPK holster, but it is not for a PPK.



Laser thermometer. Good for getting Tom the cat to chase the 2 dots, she only does it when it is just me in the room.



Fluke Clamp meter, all working. Like the Laser pointer, both did not have an assets register, so it could not be traced and audited.
So both sent for disposal. Yes a terrible waste.

Half a tin of Record drill bits, the bits are useful, but it was the tin I was after.

No, the vice grips are not golden, that's just a effect from the camera. Almost unused.

In a skip, A collection of 8 or so heavy impact sockets, heavy king dick ratchet wrench & various & shorty wrenches & adapters. All 3/4" drive. You got to be a right klutz to skip those!

Pipe bender.
From this, as found/collected etc.


Striped it down.




A bench grinder wire brush, angle grinder with a cup brush, Brasso, coffee and time.



The main metal parts of the bender seamed to be contaminated with something, as the paint would not coat very very at al. Something for me to look at, as soon as time and other projects allow.

During the strip down and cleaned I found out the knurled adjuster was in fact a separate part. Only held on by tightening it very tight.




To this, fully working. I do need a new lock nut.
The thread on the original has striped, I am sure to be passing a site were I am sure I can pick one up.
The split pin on the brass part was replaced with a "Roll pin".

In-laws have just returned from a cruise round the Med. I have done that with grey funnel lines and did not think it would of changed much. I stayed at home.

But They have just left, but they came baring gifts, left without.
Wife got some new cooking spices, means I can cook again.
Mini Me got a good few meters of cloth to make outfits.
I got.

It is home and in playpen.

Odd it is a square drive, seen hex drives ones. But this has a Pat applied for stamp as well.
Any one know about finding out about Pat applied for numbers?

Not today but recently at auction...

The one on the left that is.

I've had the other one for a few weeks. It came from the same source. When I got the blue one home I found some ham-handed sod had broken the moving jaw and made a really crap job of the repair. As far as I can see it's ok otherwise.
The "new" one has an ok looking moving jaw but a chunk out of the fixed one.
The plan is to build one out of the two of them.
If it works I'll reassemble the remaining wreckage which can either go on a stand in the farm workshop (where it being knackered won't bother anyone) or back into the auction. The (hopefully good) one will either get mounted properly or moved on.
Maybe then I'll have time to look at the Swinden one

I wonder if its one of those rare factory tools or maybe part of a kit from something commercial, nice find.

Our place is run by people like this, a few weeks ago I spotted about 20 5c collets, some Morse taper adapters, plus some sockets and other bits and pieces in the skip, so a quick dive later they were in my sticky mitts, but when I asked for permission to remove them from site the miserable gits said no and didn't give a reason for refusal. If I had removed them it would end up as P45 time.
